I read these back in the sixth grade around 2006. Definitely its eighties time period by the hair and how you allowed a teen to babysit your child and looking back, some of the books have not aged well but they were enjoyable nevertheless.

I devoured them when I was younger and have strong memories of the characters, but I admit I haven't read a single one since 1993 so I don't know how they aged.

Iβm not saying that theyβve aged terribly, itβs just that what people thought of things at the time, especially on disabilities like autism, is so out dated today.

Yeah, I often feel that when I read books or watch tv shows I loved in the 90s. It seems the world has changed a lot since then.

True. Reprints exist for a reason. Especially in childrenβs fiction.

you're most welcome of course! I only read the first twenty or so. I had never even heard of the one about child abuse, holy cow, that's some heavy stuff! the ones I read were usually about having a boyfriend. The third book, which was about diabetes, was pretty serious I guess (that was the first one I read). I think I related mostly to Kristy, because she liked to wear jeans, t-shirts and hoodies, and she had older brothers (although I hated sports and I don't think her stories were the most interesting ones). I liked Claudia as well because of her clothes (I loved drawing her!) and because she did art.

Mary Ann and Dawn on the bed
Mallory with the poofy hair on the floor
Jessi hanging upside down on the bed
Kristy in the chair
Claudia and Stacey standing with the bottle of cola!
I loved this book series and still do to this day!

Well remembered! To be honest I'm not too familiar with the English names, since I read the books in a Dutch translation.

how lovely that you read to your nieces and nephew! I would love to read to my nieces, but sadly they live too far away.

I love this. I can picture the meetings going on just like this. The Babysitters Club was my childhood! Thanks for making this. I love it.

Nice drawing! Love it. I am also a huge Baby-Sitters Club fan too. They also changed their names in the Quebec-French version, except for Claudia.

Oh my goodness! I adored those books when I was younger. I don't think I've ever seen art with them before, although I haven't really gone looking. I think some of my favorite ones were the larger special editions that came out every, say, 10 books or so? I always liked longer reads, and still do. I specifically remember the one where they all went to California, and one of Mallory's brothers was singing about some sort of cleaning product making you barf, or hurl or something...and how the girls were absolutely mortified. Anyway. Considering it's been so darn long since I've read them, I'm amazed I can still remember so much and pick out who's who! This is just amazing. All those details. Goodness. I adore this.Β

I remember that series. Β I love your detailed pictures. Β This was the sort of illustration I used to look at for hours as a child. Β It still delights me.

thanks so much! I probably overdid it with the details, but I enjoy adding things. It often makes my sketches pretty messy though.

I remember being proud that I identified a little with each of them but I would have to say Claudia was probably my favorite, I remember trying to dress like her and to this day I hide candy in my room which I'm pretty sure was started by reading about her.Β

Part of growing up. You end up outgrowing some of the books you loved.

Passin In reply to gerre [2013-12-14 00:40:04 +0000 UTC]
Lets see...The Demon Headmaster series, Tomorrow When The War Began, The Tripods Trillogy (I was virtually addicted to them) Discworld, Animorphs, Agatha Christie, Sherlock Holmes...depended on what time you're talking about as well

gerre In reply to Passin [2013-12-15 10:29:18 +0000 UTC]
I only know some of them. I've been meaning to start on Discworld, but haven't gotten round to it yet. And I still read an Agatha Christie every now and then.
