Description     “Did you hear Adrian broke up with Nancy?” Rachel had been on the phone with Carol for an hour now, and this was the first she'd heard of Adrian and Nancy. “No? How did you get this information?” Rachel asked. “The entire senior class has been talking about. How did you not hear?” Rachel wondered this herself, Adrian was her closest guy friend after Tristan, and he usually told her everything. She guessed he was too sad to want to tell anyone, and Nancy had never been close to her, so its not like she'd say anything. “I should probably call Adrian. . . . talk to you later Carol.” Rachel said. “I understand. Okay, bye Rachel.” The line went dead.
Rachel set out to find Adrian's home phone number. She had texted and emailed him many times, but she'd never had a need to call him. She found the number written on a sheet of paper on her desk and dialed the number. After two rings she heard the phone picked up and Adrian's father answered, “Hello? Shyed residence.” “Hello Mr Shyed this is Rachel.” She could hear the surprise in Mr Shyed's voice as he responded, “Hello Rachel. How can I help you?”  “I'd like to talk to Adrian please.”  “Adrian won't talk to anyone.” “Tell him it's Rachel. And that I said to tell him, he's not the only one with relationship problems.” She heard a pause as Mr Shyed walked to the door and relay her message. A moment later, Adrian picked up the phone. “And what is your relationship problem?” He said with an emotionless voice. “I don't have one. I just said that so I could talk to you.” Rachel replied, mocking his emotionless tone. Adrian gave a long sigh, “I see. Well I don't feel like talking. Bye.” “What? He Adrian!” The phone disconnected and Rachel cursed before redialing the phone,

Adrian buried the phone in his dirty clothes hamper and went back to hitting his head on his mattress, which is what he had been doing before Rachel called.  Unfortunately, the layer of socks between the phone and the air didn't prevent the phone's ringing to reach his ears. At first Adrian considered ignoring it, but after the second ring, he knew Rachel wouldn't give up until he picked up.
“What do you want Rachel.” He said, sounding depressed. “I want to make sure you're ok.” She replied. Adrian sighed, “Oh I'm spiffy. Just grand, you know? Now you can hang up and leave me in my grandness.” Rachel gave what sounded like a snort of amusement, “Nice try. I'm not going to hang up and leave you to think dark thoughts about life.” “Hmmm,” Adrian said, “I wonder if I could kill myself with this phone. . .” Without any sarcasm in his voice he could tell he was starting to concern Rachel, but he didn't care.
She continued to annoy him, “Adrian, seriously, snap out of it. Couples break up everyday, some people aren't even in couples. . . like me for example.” Adrian sighed, “Oh yes, are you applying for the position of Adrian's girlfriend? Get in line. There are several other girls who are more promising selections. Now please, I'm going to hang up, I need to get something from the bathroom, don't call back. I promise you I won't answer.” He pressed the disconnect button, took out the batteries of the phone, and threw it against the wall for good measure.
He then went in search of the sleep pills, he took down the bottle from his adjacent bathroom and poured pills into his hand. Soon he was asleep, hoping he'd never wake up from his nightmare of life.
