`summaro asked me to post more of my non-dwarf work.This is a piece from my watercolour class; it's a copy of a Delacroix oil painting, done in ink and watercolour on Arches 140# Cold Press paper. Nothing else to say, really, except the clouds required a lot of scrubbing and blotting to get them to look anything close to the original.
My professor gave me a lengthy critique on this, so please pardon the "Advanced Critique Discouraged" tag. As much as I appreciate your comments and constructive criticism, I'd rather not have mistakes that I'm already aware of pointed out to me again. Thanks.

I think this is awesome. The slight colour/value variation with the water and the paints is fantastic, and the outline works really well.

Aw, what do professors know anyway? I've taken a few art classes at collage and the professor was a sorry excuse for an artist. Take the good advise and shit can the rest. The lion looks great, Mongo.

So, this shows that while you may not be Delacroix, you're learning the differences in media, and how to really see what you're trying to do. That is the really important bit.

It's like anything else you learn, one of these days you'll pick up your tools, your hands and mind will synch, and everything you've learned will make sense, and the piece will flow almost effortlessly. When that happens I want to see that piece posted somewhere.

It's wondreful. Copying is the highest form of flattery. I love lions, and my water colors always come out looking like Vangough's paintings, no matter who I try and copy, so your leaps and bounds ahead of me. I'm faving it, because I love big cats. <3

one thing i have to say is great colors! I'm terrible with watercolors and so often I cannot mix them well enough not to look like the out-of-the-tube colors. I think you'll do well with watercolors when you get into it more

Watercolours tend to be unforgiving, especially since some of them dry lighter than they look when wet. It just takes practice. A whoooole lot of practice.
