Description "Mystras, the 'Wonder of the Morea', was built as an amphitheatre around the fortress erected in 1249 by William of Villehardouin. Reconquered by the Byzantines, then occupied by the Turks and the Venetians, the city was abandoned in 1832, leaving only the breathtaking medieval ruins, standing in a beautiful landscape. The complex of the ruins of Mystras offers the image of a city with a brilliant destiny that was deserted by men and threatened by the return of encroaching vegetation, which is splitting the walls and covering the slopes, thus destroying here and there fragile traces of history." (Extract from whc.unesco.org/en/list/511)

The city was divided into four layers. The lower city, the middle city, the upper city and the citadel (fortress) at the summit of the hill.

Facade the "Metropolis" (Cathedral or main church of Mystras). Apparently it is fantastic inside .. but not open when I was there ...

Three shots (-2,0,2) processed in Photomatix and Photoshop

I like how you processed this, great colours! When I was there couple of years ago the metropolis was open, I wonder why they closed it? Still, it is a great photo - much better than the ones I made in Mystras, thanks for sharing!

Thanks for your comment ...  Was there at the end of the tourist season and since it is not very visited ... may be it was closed for maintenance and/or renovation.

About colors, I always go for RAW photos ... so much fun to process, full control. I tend as well to take three shots (HDR, -2,0,2) to obtain more details of the shade and clear areas, however, I do process the HDR to be on a more realistic / natural.

Regards,

Alain

I have seen some images of what is inside ... fabulous ... one day maybe I will go  back ... but there is so much to be seen taht going back to the same place is unlikely

yes, I know exactly what you mean

we once drove six hours from Jeddah to Madain Salih next to Medina, and the plan was that we spend two hours and then drive to Tabuk and then Jordan. My camera battery finished when we'd only been inside 15 minutes because I'd been taking photos the entire 6 hours!!    I almost cried because there was soooo much still to see. Thankfully, we decided to stay the night in a hotel and come back in the morning, finish it and then continue to Tabuk and Jordan

The story finished well

I got a similar emptied battery in the past.  Decided to have always two batteries since ... was a great decision
