Right, so I'm meant to be working on the first few pages of the HRA comic... which is totally what I'm doing... sorta, just got a little sidetracked by the desire to create a design sheet for the HRA's main nemesis.
Didn't want to describe too much of the character here as I'd prefer to flesh him out in the comics themselves. Species is Arctic fox (more or less) and the design inspiration mainly came from this pic: [link]
Craven is his surname... like Wes Craven, without the Wes part.

I think the best way to avoid clichΓ© is to make sure he has very human characteristics that we can also admire in him, even though he's on the evil side.

Yup he's even taller than Donovan (though not as built)and he'd definitely tower over Miranda. You are correct sir, it's one thing I had really been lacking; creating a decent baddie, so decided the HRA story was the best place for one.

Aha, we work on the Metric system so I was using a height converter for this, guess it wasn't factoring that in properly. He's meant to be slightly higher than my bull character so I'll change this to 6'11"

I guess it depends how realistic you try to go and what animal you're aiming for... if you're used to drawing humans then it helps to keep your character mostly human with some animal features (which is mainly what I do). I also notice you've worked with both a realistic and anime-styled approach to humans, you'll find it easier to experiment with the anime style when starting out with anthro, as the features are already distorted (large eyes, sharp jaw/chin) and thus won't look jarring when working in anthro elements.
Cats are generally easier as they have fairly flat faces, and you can try a simplified approach of using a button nose (detail can be enhanced through shading), throw in some fuzz on the cheeks, give the character large cat-like ears and a tail, and you're off to a good start.
