Ten years ago today, The-British-Badnik published a journal:www.deviantart.com/the-british… expressing why he doesn't want the Freedom Fighters to appear in the Sonic video games. And in between that time, the Archie comics got cancelled with the mentality that the Freedom Fighters should appear has largely died down. But there are still some who want them to return in some way. I'm not saying I like or dislike them. But I feel that their chance of returning is extremely unlikely for several reasons. Most of them were already expressed in the journal. Such as their backstories being different, their roles being taken by the game characters, and how they have served their purpose. And IF (and that's a massive if) they do come back in some way, they'll be extremely different to their SatAM/Archie counterparts. Such as having new backstories to make them more in line with the games (i.e. Sally is no longer a princess but an undercover reporter), new designs (not the same as the reboot ones), new personalities (i.e. Rotor being more incompitent than Tails), new voice actors (Kath Soucie declining to appear in #Rally4Sally speaks for itself), and will likely get the 'special guest star' status, only showing up very, very rarely. But I think that this is also unlikely as I doubt that SEGA would do this. Firstly, they don't want to reopen the wounds with Archie. I know that Ken Penders didn't create them, but they're from a continuity that he had a massive hand it. And we all know how that went. There is also the critcism that they got more attention than the game cast in the comics. Not to mention that SEGA ended their relationship with Archie in July, 2017. Secondly, it would be an extremly controversial decision. As those who like them won't like some of the changes they rececived to justify their apperance. Those who don't like them and don't want to see them again will also be just as angry. And then there are those who are indifferent who will get caught up in the crossfire. And thirdly, SEGA of Japan really doesn't care about them. Particuarly since they shot down a stealth game based off of SatAM which I think killed any chances for the Freedom Fighters showing up in the games sans their cameo in Spinball. There are other reasons such as how younger fans won't know who they are, the debate to whoever owns the rights to them, and the mandates SEGA has in place regarding romance. Bottom line, the Freedom Fighters' 15 minutes of fame are over. There is no reason to bring them back outside of nostalgia. And bringing them back would cause discource.
