Description I take a deep zip of air
It tastes the same, only colder
My soul is standing in line
Waiting for the white curtain to rise

The one before me seems to be in a hurry
Like time has some sort of a meaning here
Well, I guess habits are hard to break
Even when everything is different

I guess I have all the time in the world
This one and the next
I just wonder what it will be like
At the end of the line, for me.

I'm very happy about this contest.
Surreal photography is my greatest passion.
The use of shadows, reflections, Infra Red, panning techniques...
The mind can go free in this world, to portray an alternative one.

This shot was taken at 3:00AM at the old city of Jerusalem, on the night of Yom Kipur.
The atmosphere that night, walking the streets was surreal, so easily enough, this is what I was photographing.
What you see is actually people climbing the stairs to a roof top, but while they were walking I was panning them, and gave to strokes of soft flash to get small freeze in the frame, and allow the 'ghost' like figures.

I love this shot, and I hope you will like it too.

BTW
There are FANTASTIC submittions to this contest.
You have to check it out - outstanding stuff!
Here are a few - Towards the Moon , The Circle , i dont want to fall . Check it out!

very well thought out and executed on so many different levels. this is one of the very small percentage of the entire contest, that i actually consider surreal. jadD is confused sounds like he is thinking of abstract?????

Its hard to put surreality into words, but it is somehow more than real, greater than reality. It makes me question the concept of reality. Is it real?

Hey man, I don't aprove that. If you want to use my picture you should ask premission, and I would have said no to using my picture as stock for collage, and the credit hidden like it is.
If you think that this is asking premission you are wrong. Remove my photo from there.

I've said it to few people, but when the discussion arises as to "what is art" your works would be among examples I would show

I absolutely love this picture- concept and all. I've been browsing your work and I have to say, one thing I especially like about it (besides your amazing photography) is how you share your techniques, how you took the picture, what lense you used etc.

For someone like me who is just starting to get into photography (and have to learn everything from the internet as I am unable to go to any photography school right now) it's very nice to have someone who's not so secretive about how they were able to capture such an amazing picture. It really helps to give ideas and to learn more about photography. Thanks!!

Sorry to do you any wrong but I don't think your work is surreal at all, not this not any piece (as I can recall in my blatant memory). It's a nice photograph though. Genres are useless anyway so I shouldn't say anything but really surrealism is so much more than this... More than moving your camera a little thus giving a documentary piece some sorts of "surrealistic" tone. But I don't know what goes on in your head, maybe you meant more. Keep it up anyway.

Is the technique connected to the theme?
Does the fact that I worked with a tripod, or moved while I was shooting, has anything to do with the consept or theme of the photo? I migh as well be photographing a sport car moving in that technique.

I never said that the technique is what makes this surreal. It the way I feel about the resault.
However, you are welcomed to think differently.

Of course that's what you think, I just wanted to tell you that I don't think the same way. I don't really connect "surreal" to some kind of dream like state in photography, I see it in a more I would say conservatite way, that surrealism is automatism, splatterings on walls and such. But of course it is so much more than just DalΓ and Duchamp's the large glass. I think I need to reshape my opinion. But right now, yes I really think the technique is connected to the theme when it comes to surrealism.

thats so awsome, this is one of my top favorites. it seems like people waiting in line, like the tittle says, the blurr makes me think of fast forward or slow motion, and thats how there life is going, like there just waiting for thier life to end or something like that.

a very kool picture that gives me ideas and makes me think. I havnt seen one in a while
