Description This is a cake I've just finished for my Son I thought I'd make a big effort as he might be away at Uni on his next Birthday. It's taken from a design from a T-shirt of his that he bought in London.
It's vanilla sponge with chocolate orange butter-icing and all edible bits. The cake was 42cm tall by the time I'd finished which I think is the tallest sculpted 3D cake I've made so far

If you would like to use this image for anything at all,
would you please let me know before you do so.....Thankyou..

The head you mean?

I cut out a round piece of plastic lid from a container and cut an X in the middle so when I pushed it through Β the wooden support, it was tight and didn't slide down. You can just about see it in the 4th picture of the stages photos.

How fantastic! Were the blue props under the wings just to hold it until the icing hardened? Oh, you're a 'lefty'!?!?! My grandmother and granddaughter were/are lefties and I'm sure you're all extra special.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ginas-cakes In reply to MayEbony [2013-02-10 14:47:34 +0000 UTC]

Thankyou ^^...and yes, they helped prop up the wings while they were drying. I left them there till last minute though, as it would have been my luck for them to fall off last minute

..and yes, I'm left handed....mu husband left handed....but none of the kids are. How wierd is that

MayEbony In reply to ginas-cakes [2013-02-11 07:26:36 +0000 UTC]

I don't blame you for staying safe and protecting all your hard work!

Gosh, that is strange isn't it? My Grandmother remained left-handed even though she was schooled in the days where they caned their fingers for it. One of her 4 children but none of her grandchildren were lefties, and yet one of her great grandchildren is - with no input from other genes. I'm fairly ambidextrous, but not for writing, I'm definitely a righty for that! Maybe you'll get grandchildren that are lefties and you'll be the only one that can teach them to tie shoelaces

Yes. All in good time. We have children quite young in my family. My grandmother was still alive for the first year of my own granddaughter's life. I really should post that 5 generation picture. Have to swallow my pride to do it because I was a 'big girl' then LOL

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ginas-cakes In reply to MayEbony [2013-02-11 16:09:33 +0000 UTC]

.....5 genertations....really...wow! so what would the age gaps be?
and if you don't mind me asking, what age did your family have children? I thought
I was young to have my first at 17

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MayEbony In reply to ginas-cakes [2013-02-11 16:15:57 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow, 17 was much younger than any of us. Well done!
My grandmother was born in 1911
Mum (her 3rd child) was born in 1935
Me (1st child) 1956
My son (1st child) 1979
His daughter (1st child) 2005

So we were not record breaking, just consistently fairly young with each generation. When my granddaughter was born she was 0 (obviously), her dad was 25, his dad 50 and his mum 75, so they were each the presumed (by genealogists everywhere) 25 years old at the birth of their first child. Had she been born 3 weeks later it wouldn't have worked out because the 75 year old would have had a birthday.

ginas-cakes In reply to MayEbony [2013-02-11 16:23:49 +0000 UTC]

Ahhhh....ok. I couldn't quite get my head around it
...yes, I can see that it's the consistancy of the gaps between the generations.

Having my daughter was a bit of a 'unexpected surprise', but I wouldn't change things. My eldest
is now 22, so she has already showed she is a bit wiser than me By her age, I had been married for
3 years, and pregnant with my 3rd

MayEbony In reply to ginas-cakes [2013-02-11 17:23:22 +0000 UTC]

Funnily enough I may have married younger than you - I was 18 years 5Β½ months. But we waited 4Β½ years before number one was born. I stopped at 2 - I'm not cut out for people who can't tell me why they're crying and I don't 'speak baby' to recognise wet/hungry/tummy ache cries so it wasn't easy. Once they're talking though, I enjoyed it very much.

I think I'm alot better the other way around. I'm finding it really hard while the girls are going through their teens. I prefered it when all they needed was feeding, changing, and bathing
