Description Woohooo, here it is: my first walkthrough about CSS journals!

The zip file is about 4,3MB big, so might take a while.
I've added:
- the walkthrough pdf (21 pages!)
- both psd files
- the basic css file
- the original sized screenshots

Hope that this will help to understand the making of journal CSS a bit more. But like mentioned in the walkthrough: it's my way and others might work different. It just should give you a feeling of what needs to be done.

I have to thank my beta readers, who took the time to hunt down my grammar/english mistakes and gave me hints where i should add some more stuff.
A big thanks to !violentsamurai , ~Espiroth , =blissart , and `bluem00n

That is really helpful, congratulations, by the way, but, *sigh*... I have a problem. The previous entries link just... disappeared. It's not visible...any chance that I can fix it? I know, I described the problem really badly, but there's nothing more to say! It's just not visible...

The new journals don't have that anymore. It's only in the preview these days, but not at the actual journal. So it's nothing you did wrong.

I downloaded and went to open but All I got was a zip in a zip in a zip. I clicked each zip at 10 I stopped, why is there only a zip in a zip?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GinkgoWerkstatt In reply to SlayerXiena [2011-03-29 16:55:26 +0000 UTC]

The download works just fine for me, did you try to download it again. There is not even a single zip-file in my zip-file. So must be a bug on your side.

SlayerXiena In reply to GinkgoWerkstatt [2011-03-29 17:04:05 +0000 UTC]

... Ok I'm going to take that as nice as possible cause I'm even trying it on my pc and its got the same as the mac, zip in a zip in a zip...

but hey maybe it is trying to tell me I should stop trying to learn everything

GinkgoWerkstatt In reply to SlayerXiena [2011-03-29 17:07:20 +0000 UTC]

I have no idea what is wrong or why it doesn't work for you. You are the first person that has such problems since this got uploaded. So it worked nearly 2000 times without having experienced something similar.

What program(s) do you use to unzip the file?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SlayerXiena In reply to GinkgoWerkstatt [2011-03-29 17:26:42 +0000 UTC]

Default of what the zip has and if its not word it opens using TextEdit

[link] <-- My proof in case you were wondering. (I'll get my PC screen shot too if you want)

And Like you said it might be a bug, but I think it worked for you cause you have the file on you computer and or in your trash for it to be brought up.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GinkgoWerkstatt In reply to SlayerXiena [2011-03-29 17:42:53 +0000 UTC]

Inside of the zip there are only .txt, .psd and .jpg files. Nothing else and i downloaded the file from dA, not the one from my computer. And it's not in my trash or anywhere else either, because the file is from 2008 and i haven't touched it for more than a year anyway.

The only thing i could offer you is to upload the files to my webspace temporarily, so that you could download them from there, without being zipped.

LaJeuneFilleNeSait [2009-09-13 22:25:13 +0000 UTC]

I love your tutorials! They're so easy to follow!

But I have a question: How do you add image-bullets? I've made a crescent moon that I want to use as a bullet (like next to "Watch Me", "My Gallery", and "Note Me"). Do I do it the same way as in your image paths tutorial?

Oh, that reminds me, in your image paths tutorial, you said something about opening up the CSS....I've started on mine, but it's a .txt file...it isn't a CSS...I'm just really confused about that...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GinkgoWerkstatt In reply to LaJeuneFilleNeSait [2009-09-14 14:52:57 +0000 UTC]

That's great!

You can either add them as normal images with directly in the journal entry or you are going to use it as a background images for links

My CSS code is always saved as .txt file. For dA it doesn't make much difference, because the code will be directly included. For normal websited and if you refer to the CSS code you have to use .css - otherwise the .txt is just an easier way to save and open it. Especially for people who aren't familiar with it
And you can change the filename extension anytime without problems from one to the other.

LaJeuneFilleNeSait In reply to GinkgoWerkstatt [2009-09-14 20:12:02 +0000 UTC]

Oh, ok! Thanks for clearing that up for me! I've gotten really interested in this and I want to learn more about it. I found a couple of websites that seem pretty good, so I'll try to use them to learn it. ^^ I think one of them is called "w3schools" or something...I can't remember...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GinkgoWerkstatt In reply to LaJeuneFilleNeSait [2009-09-15 14:26:30 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, most people refer to that site. I learned from other websites, but they are mainly in german, so that won't help most people

But there is also a list at *eCSSited . Maybe take a look at that. We tried to put as much good websites together as possible

Yeah one wrong character and something doesn't work, but good to know that you've learned something.

I saw that you've made two templates with my css code. That's ok, although i prefer to get asked before and a note that you've made some would have been nice too
