I was picturing this on a stage more than some other entries I've seen have a whole environment going, so there's a bit of a lack of a background here because of that, not 'cause I was lazy, honest. x3; The fire should more than make up for that anyway, it took forever... still not the best I've done, but much better than in my last round, so at least I'm moving in the right direction...! C8 Not sure if I'll pass this round or not since most of the entries I've seen have been pretty epic, but I'm still happy with it. ^^

But omg I'm finally done with that mountain of stuff I had to do this month! I'll actually be able to draw something... because... I feel like it?? O.o What a concept! xD

STORYTIEM. 8D

(Note- I think the entry can stand on its own without the little story I just wrote up, but I just finished NaNo this past Thursday and it left me with an incredibly strong urge to write something to accompany this. xD Enjoy! ^^ )

Joash fidgeted nervously with his tunic where he and the two Pokemon he was using stood just off stage. The wood they would be using had already been placed in a pile at stage center, and the crowd was watching expectantly, curious to see what it would be used for. Majority of the other competitors had already gone, and now Joash was regretting having missed them due to spending so much time in the dressing room, completely clueless of whether or not his performance would be a change of pace or more of the same; but there was still one part of his outfit that he couldn't get over.

"Remind me again why I'm not wearing any pants." he said to Agtan, his Magmar. The Magmar looked at him sarcastically, raising an eyebrow. Joash rolled his eyes. "Yes, I am still going on about that... I wish they'd just announce us already so I could get this over with." He crossed his arms and tapped his foot impatiently, watching a little Charmander twirl around excitedly in his white cloak. "Aero, stop that, you're going to trip-"

"ALRIGHT, EVERYONE!" called a voice from the stage. Joash looked up, in a half crouch on his way to stop Aero, although the Charmander was already listening now. The crowd around them settled down as the Head Judge, Miki, began speaking. "Now that we've finally flushed out all that snow and slush from our last performer, it's time for another summer-themed performance! Up next is competitor 110, Joash Tolbert!" The lights were dimmed as Joash waited for the mild applause to settle down, took a deep breath, and the three of them moved out on to the stage.

They walked out to take positions at three points, all of equal distances from each other around the pile of wood. Joash stared at the wood, waiting for the right moment. Beneath it he could see a few cracks forming in the floor and faint clouds of smoke issuing from them, though he doubted anyone in the audience would be able to see it from their distance. He tried to feel out the tension of the crowd, wanting to wait just long enough, but not too long. He looked over at Agtan to his left, who was showing slight strain from the attack he was prepping. Agtan returned the look, to let him know he was ready. And... now.

The flames on Agtan's and Aero's tails spiked in sync with a sudden churning of rocks and a smoke that was perfectly visible by all. Agtan ran toward the front of the stage and posed, Aero doing a playful little flip and landing accurately on Agtan's back. Agtan swung out his arms slowly and swiftly thrust them into the earth while Aero simultaneously extended his arms and tiny blue balls of flame appeared, circling them and growing as a brilliant orange and yellow flame burst out of the ground behind them. The crowd gasped as the sudden wave of heat permeated the whole area.

Aero jumped off Agtan's back and started twirling about as he had done moments ago, although with more careful movements. He spun around his arms and the wil-o-wisp spun with them, dancing around the huge bonfire that Agtan's lava plume had created like big, bright fireflies. Clapping and laughter could be heard over the roar of the fire at the cute Charmander's dance.

From around the fire, Joash and Agtan joined in on Aero's dance, taking well rehearsed steps as they clapped out a beat, Agtan occassionally swiping his claw through the flames and sending out sprays of colourful embers, showing off the fact that the fire was dancing every bit as much as they were.
On his last time around, Joash reached down and picked up a long pole from the fire and spun it around, swishing the flames on its end into bright circles over his head.
In the frenzy, he accidentally hit one of the wil-o-wisps; unplanned, but as they all watched the now orange-tipped blue flame rise up over the bonfire, one that worked out.

The blue fireflies quickly fizzled into tiny falling embers like fireworks as the lava plume gave out one last burst of skyward flames, and the dance ended. Above them, the crowd burst into applause at the energy-packed appeal they had just witnessed, and the three performers took a bow, all panting from the effort. Agtan quieted the flames so the stage could be ready for the next competitor. Joash laughed through his shallow breaths and looked at the other two. "Heh... not bad, guys." he smiled. "Char, char-charmander!" Aero proudly proclaimed, leading them off the stage, waving his left arm in the air. He gave one last spin and they were out of sight.

As the next trainer and Pokemon passed them for the stage, they quietly made their way back to the waiting room, eager for the round to end and the results to be posted.
