Description "The things once rearing and dwelling in this frightful masonry in the age of dinosaurs were not indeed dinosaurs, but far worse. Mere dinosaurs were new and almost brainless objects - but the builders of the city were wise and old, and had left certain traces in rocks even then laid down well nigh a thousand million years - rocks laid down before the true life of earth had advanced beyond plastic groups of cells - rocks laid down before the true life of earth had existed at all. They were the makers and enslavers of that life, and above all doubt the originals of the fiendish elder myths which things like the Pnakotic Manuscripts and the Necronomicon affrightedly hint about. They were the great "Old Ones" that had filtered down from the stars when earth was young - the beings whose substance an alien evolution had shaped, and whose powers were such as this planet had never bred. "
—H.P. Lovecraft, At the Mountains of Madness

The famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright observed: "Form follows Function" and in observance of our world's Nature, ...designed accordingly.

Presuming that to be a pan-dimensional axiom we must ask, what native circumstances necessitated the evolution of such a morphology as such of the great Old Ones?

Girhasha In reply to Theorionmage [2014-11-20 18:05:47 +0000 UTC]

I think, that Old Ones needs five wings because they travel in space with these helps. So, they have to move without any gravity and orientation. Also they have a different symmetry of their bodyes. Lots of animals on our planet have bilateral symmetry of their bodyes. This is due to gravity and other things ... Wikipedia tells better) But Elder Things have five angle symmetry (pentamerism) - like starfish. This confirms that the Elder Things are adapted for life in space.
I'm sure my English in this post is just terrible) But it is really difficult to translate.

When you consider the Elder Gods 'wings' do NOT just think of them as aerodynamic foils surfaces but also as collectors of radiant energies AND as functioning 'solar sails'... a means of effortless propulsion and acceleration through the vastness of the Void.

This is a-fucking-mazing Thank you for actually being, like, the ONE person who actually remembered/knew that the Elder Things had FIVE wings, not two!

I don't think that Lovecraft's creature could be very colorful. Also this one just extracted from ice

Easily one of the best and most accurate depictions of an elder thing that I've seen, and that's not easy for Lovecraft's most complicated description for one of his creatures.   Great work!  What is the medium???

Are you asking about material? It is "LaDoll" - Air-Dry Clay.
And thank you for your comment!
