I think they wanted to show how unimportant the things are, the adults talk about

The adults talked like that because it was the only way to represent them in animated form. In the comic, you never see, nor hear, them. They weren't the focus of the strip. It was strictly kids only. So they used a trombone riff to represent the adult's speech. That way when the kids reacted to an adult presence, they did look like they were schizophrenic, hearing voices no one else could, but at the same time it kept the kids only focus.
