This is my project for 2016's Old Souls' Gala "Der Marchenkoning - The Fairytale King" & for Monthly Feature Challenge "Dresses"
The original plan was to make a Baroque Seagull, but then I saw this red velvet and SBAM, change of project XD
The Gala has three main themes, and I choose the Baroque one because hey, Baroque, what's not to like of it?? XD
As always, I took some liberties with the design because, frankly speaking, I just don't have fun strictly sticking to historical accurancy anymore XD I like to add details from other eras and just take a fantasy twist to the design

The skirt is made of two pieces, the pleated skirt in fully embroidered red velvet and the mantua (over skirt) in crisp gold fabric lined in red velvet The skirt is supported by hip pads and a corded linen petticoat, and to avoid excessive weight of the mantua I only lined the front panels (and also saved fabric! XD). I hand beaded the red lining with gold and tone-sur-tone glass beads, and I also fully hand beaded the mantua to resemble the tails of a phoenix it was a long work xD there are some 200 synthetic beads involved and some 100 glass ones that had to be sewn on one by one and it was rather tiring...but I like the result!
I painted the synthetic beads one by one with different hues of red nail polish both to save money (crystal ones are super cheap compared to colored ones) and to get a bit of mixed colours like in a real fire
The bodice is a rather complex historical cut, fully boned with 100+ metal bones (it's REALLY heavy. Really really heavy)and sits rather high on the hips for design purposes, which makes it slightly uncomfortable (=__ I should double think projects before diving in xD it's made of red embroidered velvet to match the skirt, but I also added aurora boreale glass beads to make it more precious the sleeves are made of embroidered tulle and are gathered in two places, just above the elbow and just above the wrist. The final effect is VERY full xD
The neckline is decorated with an indian border with pearls, crystals and small mirror pieces so it's very shiny I love it xD
