Thank you dear!!! it took a life to make the hair (as it was awfully humid and I couldn't seem to make the iron work properly...) but I did like the final result

Thank you!! You are doing amazing reproductions already from what I can see. Keep it up and you'll be doing jaw-dropping ones in no time flat! Sissi's dresses are walking works of art in themselves, they are massive projects and you've done them wonderfully well along with your Sarah dress.

More than welcome!

Have you ever considered doing some of Sissi's dresses from the Thun production? They took a very different route with their sets and costumes and they were quite interesting. I'm slowly getting together the makings for the Wenn Ich Tanzen Will dress from that version

Waaaaaaah!!!!! Do you like the Thun production too?
I thought I was the only one to know that one XD I'm glad to see that you like it too!!
I really like their costumes and settings - expecially the prologue in red
I saw two different recordings of the Thun production and I really liked both! I can't wait to see your Wenn Ich Tanzen Will dress!
I really want to try to make the Ich genhur nur mih reprise one [link] but I still have to get a clear picture of it...I'm sure the corset is made of some shiny textile but I can't get what kind of it is ><
Well...and the death one is another I love...I still have to even see somewhere something similar to that design XD

Oh no, you are not the only one! I am well aware of it and very disappointed that the only footage out there - well the only footage I can find! - is the proshot "making of" which has such precious little footage of the actual show!!! Thankfully it has a good sized chunk of Wenn Ich Tanzen Will and you get to see the outfit from all angles which is a costumer's dream come true - no guess work as to what the back or sides look like!

You've seen two recordings??? I've never come across anything other than the making of video, what recordings have you seen? I have been desperately looking for more recordings of this version and all anyone can tell me is there's the Making Of video and a couple of audio recordings with Roberta as Sissi.

I can tell you what that top is made of - that's the Wenn Ich Tanzen top!!! Only difference is that you get a white skirt, I get a red one! It's a white sequined material with red satin detailing on the boning Boning extends up and down (I think...) over each edge of the corset. If you want really good detail, check out [link] - it's the only youtube video I can find of Wenn Ich Tanzen Will but if you can find it in higher resolution (note me and I can tell you where to find a copy, I just can't post it publicly!) You get her from all angles in that song - she turns around nice and slowly a few times so you see front, back AND sides!!! That's one thing I really love about the Thun production is their clever use of costumes and how it's the same skirt over and over again just with a different layer over the top - it's SO simple yet everything looks so gorgeous and different.

I'm still not 100% sold on the Death design, it seems like it's not as polished as the rest of the costumes - it's kind of like they got carried away with all the girls outfits and then realised they'd run out of time to give Death an equally amazing outfit.

Waaaaaaaaaaai!! I'm so happy that you like it too!! It's so difficult to find Thun fans out there ><;;
I saw the recordings...I think something like 9months/one year ago, when in Italy we had a big tv production on Elisabeth. There were two days in which they showed footages of the various movies made and of the musical. One of the recordings was a daily performance, and the other one was by night! I was in an hotel so I couldn't record it, and could never find a single person who had recorded the show =__=;; it was a collage of all the songs, and it was very good!! I can't understand why you can find people who record pieces of quiz shows and no one recorded such a good program =_=

Waaah!!! Thank you so much for the link!!! I had never seen that one!! I'm a mess at searching stuff on the net it's so great that you can see all the sides, isn't it? I hate to try to guess the details XD and it's good that she twirls around, so I cann see the layers of tulle under the skirt XD I really can't wait to see your Wenn dress
I think I'll go and search the materials for the top next week, sales start for the textile world too
You know, I like the colour and the pattern of the Death one the design itself is...a bit poor, but I really like the material *_*

I do indeed like the Thun production! I always like seeing non-replica productions of well known shows - it takes a brave person to go "You know what - lets NOT do the same thing as everyone else!" with a show that's been running for two decades and has really only had one major change in styling in that time (excluding other versions like the Japanese ones etc) and to then do something SO different - I guess it was in part borne by the fact that they were in a totally different setting and from what I've heard the traditional costumes take quite a bit of time and effort to put on and when your "theatre" is in the middle of a lake, you'd be wanting to minimise how much fuss your cast have to go through to get dressed when there's limited space! The one major complaint I've seen about the costumes for Thun is the fact that they ignored the very well-known historical fact that she ONLY wore black after the death of one of her children. Valid point, I concede, but once again, could have been a design decision based on the fact it was an outdoor production perhaps. I too find it hard to believe that NO ONE recorded the show- my bet would be that someone has and they just didn't realise that there was a "market" for people wanting copies of it

That's okay, I'm very sorry I couldn't get you a better quality online link. The full DVD quality is excellent - I chuck it on my TV and pause it and study all the details I can!

I want to like Death's outfit but I keep coming back to the fact that it really does look like they forgot to finish it - it really doesn't look that much more impressive than the Death Angels to my eye.

I need to go look at fabrics but sadly, I can't go until next weekend - and I am very impatient! I mostly have everything I need for the Thun outfit (other than the knowledge on how to make a proper corset haha!) but I need bias binding for the red ribs on the tops or some fabric to make my own - I just need to remember to take a snippet of my red sheer with me so I can match the colour properly

giusynuno In reply to Nsaia [2011-12-31 15:39:23 +0000 UTC]

I think they did a great job at making the setting all so different
The problem with the costume colours was primary I think - if they used black I suppose no one would have seen the actors XD If they would have made the dresses more history-related I suppose they would have lost the originality of it^-^ I do like historical based musical as they are so magical, but I think that sometimes a different turn, expecially in long-running productions recently I was wondering how a production like The Phantom of the Opera would be with different costumes
You know, I saw the 2008 running of Elisabeth in Berlin and it was just magical. I was sure they would made a dvd of it, but no, they haven't. "There are already recordings of older productions" they answered me. No!! I wanted that one!! I'm sure that others would have bought it, but well...I'll never understand the marketing behind musicals' dvd production xD

Death Angles are gorgeous, aren't they? They really take all the attention! I'm trying to convince a friend to be one, but he's so stubborn and doesn't want to xD I have to try harder, I'd really like to try to make one of their costumes!

Wah I suppose we'll go fabric shopping at the next moment I'll be going next Saturday bias binding already made is so much confortable than making your own, I really hope you'll find a typoe that matches your sheer!! corset making is hard for everyone - I really hate to bone stuff XD this is why most times I simply put the right epoque corset under and avoid boning the dresses XD but for the Thun one I suppose this won't be possible

Even with the stage lighting, there's still a difference between lighting outdoors and indoors. The dresses are kind of historical but at the same time, they're a simplified version. I really love the hair pieces that they made, they're really intriguing - I want to make one of those as well!

I believe there have been a couple of non-replica productions of Phantom, but they're not very common. I for one, would love to see a newer commercial recording of Elisabeth - I quite like Annemieke van Dam in the role because I think she looks the most like the actual Sissi out of anyone who has played her, although I don't like her singing as much as others.

giusynuno In reply to Nsaia [2012-01-09 17:39:09 +0000 UTC]

The hairpieces are incredible, aren't they? The Tanzen is absolutely crazy in a beautiful way

I'm planning on going to see Annemieke as Elisabeth in Trieste, which is a couple of hours far from where I live The production is going to come to Italy for two weeks and since it's not that expensive I really want to give it a try I'll let you know how it's going to be! I don't really like Annemieke's voice too, but the rest of the cast sounds very good...and I really hope they're going to make a dvd out of this production >< by the way, have you seen the 2007 version of Elisabeth? With Mate Karavas?

Nsaia In reply to giusynuno [2012-01-11 10:29:04 +0000 UTC]

They really are incredible!!! It looks like it would actually be reasonably easy to make - hair braided around a wire and formed would do it, the issue would be making it look nice and smooth and neat!

Oooh, that would be lovely!!! Enjoy it and do let me know how it is - I hope you get to see Mark Seibert as Death, I really want to know what he's like in the role! I think he's a great performer but I never would have picked him for that role.

It would be nice to see a new DVD - it's the 20th Anniversary this year isn't it? I really hope they make one for the 20th or the 25th anniversary! I've seen the 2005 German commercially available DVD with Mate Kamaras and I know there's a 2007 Hungarian one with him but I've not seen that one

giusynuno In reply to Nsaia [2012-01-19 14:15:56 +0000 UTC]

The problem with hair-around-wires pieces is always that of making it look neat, isn't it >< I made fake ponytails onece and actually had to remake them three times before achieving a decent look XD

I do know that Annemieke will be Elisabeth, but no other cast is avaible at the moment ><;; I think it's going to be him since it looks like the cast will be the same as the Koln one, but the site doesn't really say^^ I really liked him in Romeo und Julia and Wicked, so I'd really like to see his death too!!
I'll let you know how it'll be, I bought my ticket yesterday and I'm so excited!! we could find third row tickets, which was a miracle because it's almost sold out XD

I liked the "strange" setting of the 2005 one, but I didn't really like Elisabeth's voice...but that's personal taste XXD I'd love to see Mate Karamas with a different Sissi
