Actually only about 3,000 feet (straight up a very steep mountain from the ocean) but in southeast Alaska the alpine starts at about 2,500 feet...3,000 up there is equal to about 9,000 here in Idaho!

actually the temp was in the 70s, which is as hot as it gets up there!
