Description

After Shao Kahn’s defeat at the hands of Earth’s warriors, the realm itself was restored along with the long fallen realm of Edenia. Kuai Liang, still going by the codename Sub-Zero, decided to reform the Lin Kuei clan. Before, they were a clan of assassins and thieves who became corrupted by treacherous foes like Quan Chi, Shang Tsung, and eventually Shao Kahn. The Lin Kuei descended into evil by transforming its members into soulless cybernetics. Sub-Zero hated what it became and determined to reform the clan into protectors of Earthrealm.

He had offered Jade a place in the Lin Kuei, seeing she had great potential. Jade was honored at his offer, but regretfully declined due to her loyalty to her dear friend, Kitana. Once Edenia was restored, the reformed Queen Sindel took her rightful place as ruler of the realm of peace and paradise. Kitana would take her place as princess of the realm, and if Edenia were to be protected from future threats, Jade believed she would be an invaluable ally. Once Kitana learned about Sub-Zero’s offer to Jade, Kitana encouraged her to accept the offer on the condition that she would be allowed to return to Edenia, especially during a time of crisis.

Sindel opens a portal for Jade, and she is transported outside the Lin Kuei Temple. She approaches the temple doors, and is greeted by Sareena. A former servant to Quan Chi and Shinnok, she was able to escape the Netherealm and seek refuge at the Lin Kuei Temple after Sub-Zero understood how she helped his brother Bi-Han. Jade tells Sareena that she is accepting Sub-Zero’s offer to join the Lin Kuei to learn much from him.

Sareena calls for the Grandmaster Sub-Zero. Once he sees that it is Jade at the front door of the temple, he asks Sareena if he can speak with Jade privately. Sareena leaves to attend to the other members of the Lin Kuei.

“Welcome. It is an honor to see you again, Jade.” Sub-Zero’s mask hides him blushing at the sight of Jade’s beauty.

“Thank you, Grandmaster. I came to see if your offer to me is still open. Princess Kitana told me to come here to learn from you with the hopes that I may return to my realm to maintain its protection.”

Sub-Zero is astonished. “So, it’s true. Edenia has been restored.”

“Yes, Grandmaster. If you should ever visit, you would not believe it’s beauty. Kitana and the Queen Sindel are maintaining peace there, but it may be vulnerable to future invasions, so I know I am needed there. I wish to learn the ways of the Lin Kuei so that I may be a better protector of my home. Our home, I should say.”

“Our home?” asks Sub-Zero.

Jade gives a slight laugh. “Edenia is a realm that welcomes everyone, including anyone who comes from Outworld like cryomancers.”

Sub-Zero feels a little embarrassed. “I know very little about my ancestors.”

Jade smiles underneath her mask, “it appears that we both will have much to learn.”

Sub-Zero laughs and replies, “Even a Grandmaster is a student until their last breath.” Sub-Zero bows to Jade, and she bows in return. “Jade of Edenia, welcome to the Lin Kuei.”
