Description Funny how something I had destined for the scrap pile can come back to life after a few months of a break.

Really needs to be viewed full size, thumbnail doesn't quite cut it.

Thanks for any favs and/or comments.

Edit: 01/01/10 Some color issues fixed as well as some other updates

That is sick, I think its the best nebula painting I have seen, I love the colours and the form of the nebula is amazing.

Same thing happened with my piece I recently edited. It was pretty lame and then I let it sit for about 3 months and just got around to editing it and now it's my best piece IMO.

Aside from a few of the stars, this feels like a perfectly natural nebula. Great job!

Wow, very nice... I wonder when actual photographs of space will be that clear. Not too far off, I hope.

Very nice, ,.. though it needs something to help create a sense of scale. Not sure what though.

The colours may not be too realistic, but still a striking combination I recently have realised sometimes a small change a month or so on a work can make you feel much better about it, since at the point you finish you feel biased towards liking it. It isn't until later that the exitement is gone and you can better determine whether it needs fixing or not

Rahll In reply to Chromattix [2009-10-13 04:27:57 +0000 UTC]

Actually, realism is relative term when talking about the colors of the cosmos. None of the pictures you see from Hubble are an actual representation of the colors of the nebulae they're supposed to be. A filter is used that assigns specific color based on gas content, so although the images produced are stunning, they generally aren't what you'd see if you were actually there.

Chromattix In reply to Rahll [2009-10-13 09:43:51 +0000 UTC]

Damn, I forgot all about that. Surprisingly I only learned that early this year (I was kinda disappointed actually to hear the colours where enhanced ) Now that I think of it - I read somewhere that Hydrogen and Helium are colourless, so most of those nebulae would be kinda dull

MacRebisz In reply to Chromattix [2009-10-14 16:01:14 +0000 UTC]

no it's not like that, a large amounts of gas blocks the light like dust do, so we can see shape of the nebula and some colors as well.

Btw, here are some real color photos (ok, probably almost real) [link]

Oh, at least they aren't grey I had a feeling red would be the most common colour

Unless you programmed your visor to translate characteristic chemicals into one of those schemes of choice colours.
