Description The first time that I saw you was within Test Chamber 17.
You were smooth, gleaming with brilliant rays that I could barely open my eyes.
You were beautiful.
You were perfect.
We overcame one obstacle after another.
Your sweet whispers rang like chimes in my ear.
"You're doing great. You'll be out of here in no time."
"The way you tumble through the air was beautiful."
"You are so smart. I couldn't have thought of that."
I indulged myself in your honey voice, like a butterfly hopelessly entranced in the aroma of thousands of flowers.
You were the friend I had been looking for in my life.
She asked me to burn you.
The cold, lifeless voice prodded and poked, like barbed thorns dragging and scraping through my mind.
She thought you could not speak. She thought I could disregard you. She thought you were silent.
But no. You were much more than just a partner. You were a comrade that had travelled with me since the start of the chamber.
You were a friend that cheered me on when I sat in frustration in the middle of the test chamber.
But she asked me to burn you.
I could not. I would not. I should not.
But I did.
"It's okay. We'll meet in the next life for sure."
I cried.
The moment I dropped you into that flaming abyss, I died inside.
I murdered you.
She made me murder you.
She, the disembodied, forced me to murder the only friend I have ever known.
My throat thirsted. My body thirsted. My soul thirsted.
For vengeance.
I will do unto her what she forced me to do unto you, my friend.
"It's okay. Everyone dies eventually. You don't have to kill her."
But I must. It was the sole goal in my mind.
And so I did. Surmounting the insurmountable odds, passing through impassable routes, I finally reached her.
She was but a disgusting mass of steel and wires, an abomination waiting to be put out of its misery.
She was nowhere close to your beauty, your grace, and your finesse.
She must be put down for her rabid cravings for murder.
"He who fights monsters becomes monsters themselves. Don't do this. Please."
You begged. But this once—just this once—I ignored your pleas.
No matter what I become, I must avenge you.
My friend and comrade.
And so I did. I tore her open, piece by piece, and burned her in the same flaming pit of hell that she forced me to drop you in. As she screamed in agony, my laughter of glee resonated in her lair.
It was what she deserved.
Her death throes knocked me unconscious.
I know not how long had passed. But in my long slumber, I thought of you.
My only friend, whom I had brutally murdered.
Until one day, I was rudely awoken from my eternal dream.
She was dead.
Or so I thought.
But part of her—a little part of her—survived, reliving the scenes of her death repeatedly for an eternity.
A fitting and just punishment, for the transgressions that she had committed.
She created replicas of you, cubes with glowing pink light.
She murdered them too, right in front of my eyes.
Once.
Twice.
Thrice.
I know that those were not you. Those cheap knockoffs were never you.
As much as she thought they did, they never whispered to me. They were lifeless constructs she built in the hopes of spiting me.
And she fails.
Miserably.
Nothing in the world could ever replace you in my heart.
Nothing in the world could ever come close to your perfection.
"It's okay. I'm always by your side."
"I am forever yours."
"I will always support you, whatever you do, wherever you go."
Even over the moron sphere's incessant ramble, I heard your sweet voice ringing in my ears from the beyond.
I shall join you soon.
I shall join you soon.
But, not before I burn this wretched den to the ground.
With the same hellfire that claimed my friend, and my love.
I was forced to cooperate with her.
A fitting fate, being fixed on a primitive battery.
The moment I ran my gun's claw through her body, a satisfying chill ran down my spine.
That had always been how it should be.
She would never come between us again.
My love, my beacon of hope in the sea of despair, my ray of sunshine in this storm of death, no one shall come between us again.
But I must assist her. Without her, both of us will die in this Purgatory here.
I will light this place ablaze, and see it burn down around me, before I would die.
So I marched on. Through corridors, over chasms, I moved. Through hatches, over pits, I moved. Through spike plates, over acid pools, I moved.
With a single goal in mind.
Burn this place to the ground.
And he watched. His blue eye bore into me, pierced my skin, and drilled into my soul.
He wanted to erase you.
But he will fail, like she had failed an eternity ago.
They will all fail.
Nothing will ever erase you from my memories.
My only friend and comrade.
And finally, I reached his lair.
He taunted me. He berated me.
He tried to kill me, like she did an eternity ago.
He, too, will fail.
Through fire and brimstone, through gels and bombs, I managed to dismember him, like I did to her.
And I am free.
I am finally free, old friend and comrade.
As I took a breath of fresh air in the middle of a sea of gold, you appeared behind me.
"As I have always said, we will meet each other again."
Your complexion, charred but still fair.
Your body, blackened but gleaming with light.
Your eyes, glittering orbs that showered my soul with warm pink light.
"I'll always be by your side. For ever, and ever, and ever."
Welcome back, old friend.
Welcome back, my one and only love.

I love this. Well besides that, I am creating a website about a sci-fi galaxy. The website will be a bookstore for books about this galaxy. Already, in a few months, I have about ten writers interested. I hope you also will be interested. Well if you are, contact me.

Words cannot describe how amazing this is... the words choice helps to set the mood, fluctuating between sweet, longing to anger-filled lunacy. I adore this so much!

If I had to comment, I feel like the verb tenses gets a little confusing/don't match up at times, but I could be mistaken.

Yep! on GLAdos's level, just pop in "sv_cheats 1" and "Noclip" into console, and the cube (and cake) is yours. Also, tap in "Impulse 101" and you can invite the cores to a party.

WIN. This was beautifully written, I especially liked the fact that you stayed kind of vague about the subject of your love so that someone who hadn't played Portal could still get something out of it.
