Thank you I tend to not post big photoshoot type photos (I'm rather more shy than people realise, certainly to the point of not asking people to tale photos even when I really need them ) so I do get overlooked

So thank you

Thank you A lot of it is finding the right fabric I was lucky in finding such a lovely trim and then I was able to strip the dye from the silk and it gave the siver a lovely aged look

how did you embevell (sp?) the dress with the diamonds?? it looks amazing! and how long did it take to create the garment?

glittersweet In reply to MoniqueAntionette [2009-07-26 22:32:56 +0000 UTC]

Thank you

I think you mean embellish? Those are actually trims cut down and carefully seamed together again from a couple of sets of recycled clothes They were made in India and are made from silver threads and beads and sequins on the most part. There is a fair but of bullion in there too (wires wrapped into little tubes and sewn through the middle.)

It took a few weeks to do. I had to take all the purple dye out of the (now) silver fabric and that took a day Patterning took a long time as I had to work out long before cutting the fabrics just how I would do so. I think I did about 4 scaled diagrams each for the over and underskirts to make sure I used the expensive fabrics as well as I could! But sewing together went quite quickly thanks to my sewing machine being able to sew through the trims and very fine fabrics without shredding or cutting

i couldnt do that to save my life... it looks amazing!
iv always wanted to make a garment like the one form ever after, but took one look at it, and said "screw it". so im making harry potter robes instead

the amount of work that went into that dress is just astonishing. out od ten? 4000

Thank you I spent many years doing theory and research really before picking up a needle. I drew and drew and sketched and planned patterns and tested them in paper and small scale to help me develop an eye for how seams and shaping works.

I'm very much an advocate of absorbing as much information in as many ways as you can rather than learning one method

I adore that movie, and I love your dress! it looks exactly like the one in the movie. so often I see ones that only sorta look like the movie, but you did your homework, that is amazing!

This is one of my favourite movie costumes ever! You really did a beautiful job on it I've secretly been wanting to make this costume for ages, but I can never really justify that since there wouldn't be many occasions to wear it...

Thank you the sheer overlayer was a pain though I could only buy purple/silver rather than ivory/silver and then the metal tarnished when I used a decolouring agent...

This very nearly came to not be! It's a beautiful gown and I'd love to see yours

Well, it certainly turned out gorgeous. I'm gonna have to paint all the bright white laces for mine, and I hope they turn out good.

Yes, it is quite an undertaking, and you definately did a wonderful job. I'll post pics of mine when I finish it.

glittersweet In reply to Liquidfire3 [2008-06-03 23:55:55 +0000 UTC]

If you haven't already done so it might be easiest to use a tea dye to tone down the laces I find it tends to make them a warm toned off white ratehr than ivory though. And you do need to be careful not to leave it too long...

Smells interesting when you iron the tea dyed pieces

Liquidfire3 In reply to glittersweet [2008-07-09 03:25:15 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm, I actually tried that, but I think I used the wrong kind of tea because mine came out somewhat brown. I ended using a pearlescent (spelling?) acrylic paint which turned out beautiful!

Hehe, it does.
