I might make more adjustments to this one in the future. I feel like it has room for improvements.[Edit] Added some more textures to the background and a few more little tidbits for shits and giggles.

I'm almost not certain where to start on this one- so many good things to say!
The color scheme is really well executed. Violet and olive-greens fit quite well together. Blood stains are interestingly placed- apart from the obvious coming from the dagger/blade, those two which are slightly out of frame make me wonder just what - or who- lies beyond. I rather like the woman's dress- very high class and regal- her posture and tipping of the glass suggesting that she is feeling very smug about whatever crime she has just committed. As a whole, the entire room looks quite brought together- the torn wall-paper adds such character to the piece! Also, the patterning in the paper reminds me of something Victorian e.deviantart.net/emoticons/l/lā¦ " width="26" height="17" alt="
As for complaints, I don't have many, and they are small. I'm not sure how I feel about the checkerboard rug. The mint-green border is wonderful, but the checkerboard pattern seems slightly out of place. Maybe changing it to something that seems to go along with the wallpaper itself (not necessarily the same mosaic, but something a little more elegant, keeping the black and white, might work a bit better).
The lamp, I think, is a nice touch, but perhaps having the shade slightly askew (as if there might have been something of a struggle first?) would add to the scene as well.
It's really all I've got to be nit-picky about- all in all, I really love this!

Thank you very much! I really appreciate the critique -- it helps so much. I'm glad you like this piece, although I do agree that there are a few little things I could tweek here and there. Maybe adding a texture to the checkerboard would help? And I did feel like the lamp was a bit...plain, but I'm still at a loss on what to do about that...I'm going to think on that one for a while.

Adding texture to the checkerboard might help, too- that's a good idea. Play with that one a bit, you might find something really good for that!
The lamp- is it meant to be on or off? If it's on, maybe add a dim little glow coming from it..or..bloodspots on the shade?

Yeah, I was thinking about a bloodspot or maybe some aging or something for the lamp...and I'll definitely play with the rung a bit.

It's really interesting how it isn't totally clear whether the red is blood or wine, or both. Awesome!
