NIALL'S POV
It was time, Battle of the Bands time. We sat backstage waiting as each band performed. I was getting nervouser and nervouser as the time went on. What if something went wrong? Stephanie was pacing again, I watched her. Back and forth back and forth, lips placed in a frown. I wanted to go up and give her a hug and try to calm her down, but I know that wouldn't help. She was past the point of being calmed. She perked up when she heard Mallory's band name being called and she exited the room. I followed her,
"Where are you going?" I called after her,
"To see if it's true," She said, hauling open the stage door,
"To see if what's true?" I asked her,
"I wanna know if she really did steal our song," She said, crossing her arms and watching. Mallory stepped up to the mic. She opened her mouth and began to sing in her high-pitched, sort-of annoying voice,
"You're insecure, don't know what for, you're turning heads when you walk through the door," She sang,
"I knew it!" Stephanie hissed, I shook my head. We watched her perform with her small band. Harry had followed us and I rolled my eyes as he stood close to Stephanie. I pulled her closer to me and she gave me a questioning look. I pretended to be watching Mallory dance like an idiot around the stage. Finally she finished, she got a decent amount of applause and she blew kisses as she flounced off the stage. She gave Stephanie a look that obviously said 'beat that.' She gripped my hand tightly and we headed out of the room back to the lounge area. We had to kick their butts now.

STEPHANIE'S POV
It was time, the band before us had just finished up and the stage was dark. We set up quickly, making sure our amps were working and our mics were on. We signaled to the stage manager that we were ready and the lights flickered on. Liam spoke,
"Hi everyone! How are you guys?" A round of applause came from the audience. I stared out into the black mas of people. I was frozen in one place, I had a really bad case of stage fright and it was beginning to show. Hannah was tuning her bass and Niall his guitar, Drew took his seat behind the drums, "Alright, well, we're Small Town and we're singing a song we like to call Na Na Na," He said, Niall began to strum and we all started to clap to the beat,
"We've got a bit of love-hate. You take me to the edge then you hit the brakes," Liam sang, "I-I-I say it's over one day, then I'm crawling back begging you to stay,"
"We make up and we break up all the time," Harry sang, "I'll say that I hate a song, then you'll go request it the whole night long. S-S-Some people say it's so wrong, but even when we fight girl you turn me on,"
"We make up and we break up all the time," Louis and Niall harmonized,
"Were like, Na Na Na and then we're like Yeah Yeah Yeah. Always like, Na Na Na and then we're like Yeah Yeah Yeah," We all sang,
"No we can't make up our minds, cause when we think we got it right," Zayn sang,
"We go Na Na Na, Na Na Na" Louis and I harmonized.
"Na Na Na," Harry sang, I didn't even know how I was still on that stage; I was probably shaking so badly. I couldn't believe I was still singing the notes right. We were getting a pretty good reaction from the audience so far though and that made me feel a bit better.
"You wanna party too late, but when I do the same all you do is complain," Niall sang,
"You love that it drives me insane but when I get with you girl you make it ok," Louis crooned, "We make up and we break up all the time,"
"We're like Na Na Na, then we're like Yeah Yeah Yeah. Always like Na Na Na, then we're like Yeah Yeah Yeah," We all sang together, Zayn and Louis were dancing around and I actually smiled,
"No we can't make up our minds, cause when we think we've got it right," Zayn belted out,
"We go Na Na Na," Louis and I harmonized,
"Na Na Na," Harry sang,
"Na Na Na," Liam crooned,
"Na Na Na," All of us harmonized together
"Na. Na. Na," We all sang together, while Zayn hit some high notes, "Yeah Yeah Yeah," My solo was next, I thought I might die. A couple of more Na's and Yeah's and then it was my time,
"Oh woahh, oh woahh, It drives me maddd, ohh," I sang, I did it. I had gotten my very small solo perfect. I smiled and sang the last chorus, my nervousness finally gone.
"We go Na Na Na," We finished together and the audience went crazy. We stood there, relishing the applause. I even blew a few kisses. I saw Mallory on the side of the stage and winked at her. She turned and stormed out. We eventually made our way off the stage and we all hugged each other tightly.
"That was incredible!" Louis shouted, we all laughed and told each other how good everyone was. We relaxed backstage until the last band performed. Then everyone was called to the stage for the results. There were about 12 bands and they were narrowed down by votes, then the final three were chosen by applause. We all lined up on stage, in order, to wait to see who the top three were. The MC for the event stood on the stage,
"Ok, results time!" He said cheerfully, we all wrapped our arms around each other, "The first band that will make it through to the applause round is…..FYI!" He shouted as a group of guys all hugged each other at the front of the line, "Congratulations. Ok, next band through is….HOT MESS!" Mallory and her girls started jumping up and down two bands away. I sucked in a breath, What if we didn't make it through? What if we did all that hard work for nothing? Niall smiled at me reassuringly, "The last band through to the applause round is…..SMALL TOWN!" I stood there in shock for a moment; did he just say our names? Harry hugged me tightly, shouting in my ear. Louis looked like he was about to cry. I screamed and hugged Harry back, "Ok, ok settle down. Will the three bands join me in the center of the stage please?" The MC asked, we all walked over to him, "Most of you know the rules. I will call your names one at a time. The amount of applause will be the deciding factor. Ok? Ok, first to face the music is, FYI," He motioned to them. Mediocre applause, the boys' faces fell, "Hm, ok, ok," The MC said. I thought he said ok way too much, "Next up is Hot Mess," he motioned to Mallory and the other girls. They got a lot of applause. I began to feel my heart sinking. I stared at the ground as he MC introduced us. I was surprised to not only hear applause but hoots and hollers from the audience. I looked up, smiling bigger than I think I ever have before,
"Well I think we have a clear winner here," The MC said, "And that is…..SMALL TOWN!!" He shouted, I screamed and jumped around, hugging everyone. I glanced over at Mallory and saw that she was crying. I walked over to her,
"Told you the best band would win, even though your daddy was a judge," I said,
"Shut up ok, I knew you guys were going to win. You guys are really good," Mallory said before running off the stage. I shrugged it off, she was just overreacting. I joined my band again, which was getting presented the 1,000 dollar cash prize. I couldn't stop smiling. This is what we worked so hard for, this is what we deserved.
"Everyone be safe and enjoy the after party!" The MC shouted into the microphone. We headed offstage to take care of our stuff and join in the fun.
