The days slipped into a pattern: school, volleyball and rehearsal. Finally it was time for our audition. I paced backstage as the other group went on. Niall looked pale and Liam was tapping his feet furiously. Harry was whispering to Louis, looking a bit green. I paced faster and faster as it got closer to our time.
"Steph, calm down," Hannah said, clutching her bass like it was her life line. I sighed and sat down next to Niall, leaning my head on his shoulder. He wrapped his arm around my shoulder, the butterflies came back. I shook it off; the stage manager came by to tell us it was time for us to go on. We walked out on stage,
"Hello, we're Small Town and we'll be singing a song we wrote ourselves," Liam told the judges. Then he pointed at Niall, who started playing,
"You're insecure, don't know what for. You're turning heads when you walk through the do-o-or," Liam sang. One of the judges held up his hand,
"Stop, please," He said, we stopped, "I'm sorry but someone else has already done that song," he informed us,
"But how? We wrote the song!" I said,
"Well obviously you didn't do a good job of keeping it a secret. Now, find a new song or get out," the judge said,
"We can do covers right?" Harry asked,
"Yes," The female judge said, we huddled together, whispering. I had three guesses as to who had stolen our song, and all of them were the same girl,
"I've got an idea," Niall said, he began whispering. After 5 minutes, we were ready. Niall began to play,
"What you want, baby, I got it," Liam started, "What you need? You know I got it,"
"All I'm askin' is for a little respect when you get home," Louis belted out, "Hey baby, when you get home,"
"I ain't gonna do you wrong while you're gone. I ain't gonna do you wrong because I don't wanna," Liam sang,
"All I'm askin' is for a little respect when you get home. Hey baby, when you get home, listen," Louis sang again.
"I'm about to give all of my money. All I'm asking in return, honey. You give me my profits when you get there," Zayn sang,
"Yeah baby, when you get home, oh, yeah, ooh," I crooned,
"Your kiss is sweeter than honey. Guess what? So here's my money," Niall sung,
"All I need is a little respect when you get home. Baby, when you get home," Harry harmonized,
"R E S P E C T, find out what it means to me. R E S P E C T, take care, T C B," I belted out,
"Oh, a little respect. Yeah, baby, I want a little respect," Louis sung,
"Now, I get tired, but I keep on tryin'. Runnin' out of foolin', I ain't lyin'," Liam crooned,
"Yes, respect, all I need is respect," Harry sang,
"All I want, ooh yeah, I want a little respect," Niall harmonized
"Yeah, baby, a little respect." Zayn sang
"Oh honey, sock it to me. Ooh, I wanna a little respect," Louis belted out,
"R E S P E C T Find out what it means to me," I sung. We ended, the judges clapped,
"Good job guys, we'll call you soon to let you know," The other male judge said, we thanked them and walked off the stage.
"Give you three guesses who stole our song," I sneered as we packed up our stuff,
"I think we figured it out," Hannah rolled her eyes, "Mallory,"
"Ugh, I want to punch her," I grumbled,
"Hey, we pulled it off now didn't we?" Liam said, "We can still win, just forget it and let our song do the talking," he told us,
"Fine," I muttered as we walked out.
