A few hours, spread over some weekends. A lot of time was spent on tracing the map my DM made and refining my techniques, often restarting a step because I couldn't get it quite right.

Anyway, what kind of map would you be interested in? I like making maps, but without inspiration I tend to lack motivation. So, if it's not too time consuming, I might be willing to make one for you.

Also, having a sketch would definitely improve results

Edit: Also, I'm not doing commissions. Yet. Maybe in the future, but right now I'm just doing this for fun and to train my photoshop skills and don't want to deal with any of the stress that might come with trying to make money from this.

I usually leave things to the designer and give them free reign. Trying to keep to a static design / idea in my experience has never come out with anything good, requiring too many time consuming edits. If you were interested in making a (world) map for me like this one, just start drawing and see where your fingers take you. A line here, a sketch there... a little at a time for a long time and you tend to get interesting and good results.

Thing is, without some starting ideas I can't really think of anything, which is why I don't make many maps. I need some idea of what to work on, otherwise nothing gets done.

Well, I currently use A Free Fantasy Map as my world map, but it did undergo some major changes recently... the mountains in the lower left are now the "shattered barrens" (rough badlands -- someone detonated a magical nuke there), the lake in the lower right has steppes below it all the way to the coasts, and on the northern continent the lower left part of it is also now all steppes... does that help?
