This is how I get an effective 300mm, with out taking a 300mm with me. I use a 135mm mounted to a 1.4x TC. This gives me a FL of about 190mm. If I then attach it to my 40D, I get an approximate effective Focal Length of 300mm. This one lens tripples it's use in my bag. I can use it as a 135mm, 200mm or a 300mm. Plus, it's close min focus distance makes for a handy "nearly" macro lens too.
