With this elegant work you made me think of a Radiohead phrase
We plants are happy plants.
Surprisingly, I just can't get enough of your iconic reality. You give each of your works a slightly (almost secret) detail that makes them totally identified with you.
This triptych of photographs does rock my imagination in such a nebulous day like today. The first one is warm, appealing, it translates all your oblivious chemistry with a female entity (that lady you mention in the description). The second one (after a hard dispute with my buttons, it was chosen to be my favourite) is the consumption of the flesh, all the desirable issues directly related with Love. Applying such a cold tone to the image, you managed to conquer a sort of fake tranquillity, while your body is still a mischievous weapon of your sin.
The third one (I have a similar pair of shoes!) is the perfect conclusion for this little story made of perceptions and misunderstandings. I also adore those isobaric lines with numbers next to the left foot.

Thanks Karma babe. I miss Ashleigh already, and she's not even gone yet....but she's offline and I can't talk to her. Where are you?

hey there, another fantastic peice - possibly among your most cohesive. The use of colour and subtle imagery really draws your audience inwards - in fact all your peices do that - which is something i really enjoy about your work. It is very personal, and at the same time utterly generic, in the sense that everyone can relate to it without sacrificing individuality - that is quite an achievement.
Out of interest, have you considered doing some larger scale work? I think your style lends itself to a far larger canvas than you typically work on.

Finally, I'd just like to say that i really enjoy what you do - although normally i'm either too inarticulate/lazy to leave a comment(!) but you've produced so many excellent pieces recently, i thought i really should take the time to say something!

Well done, once more, and don't ever stop!

Martin

*gasp*

I wish you took the time to comment more often. I could always use a boost of confidence like that!

Seriously, though, thanks a lot for taking the time out of your day to give me your opinion on my works. It's really great, and I'm lucky to have feedback on my stuff (even more lucky that it's positive)...I don't take it for granted...I feel quite honored, in fact.

wonderful, as always.

I really love how you seperated the image vertically (rothko-ish, which I also try to imitate/apply often) and still tied them together with the beautifully drawn plants and petals.
the black and white of them is also the needed contrast to the uber-funky colours.

the arm under one of the shoes really made me smile

, friend!

"rothko-ish"? I'd like to hear more, please. Always interested in what you've got to say...you're eye is definitely an artistic one.

yeah i really like the interaction between the drawn and the photographic here - looks great - the slight overlapping of the elements helps a lot too!

id have been tempted to stray into the 'frame' area with some of your plant sketches - just to break down the lines there and to add a bit more depth to it, but hey, this is you not me anyways!! lol

well played mate

gnaime In reply to eatelsewhere [2004-07-14 15:46:12 +0000 UTC]

I'll definately keep that in mind in newer pieces. I've done it in the past (Geodegotme) and not recieved much good feedback on that technique (overlapping through the border). Thank you for the suggestion.

I got your email as well, and yeah I called Hayes and hung out once...but not since. He lives about a half hour from my place...and I never have time to go hang out that far away. I'll probably call him up soon though.
