Description Sigh.... not sure I like my colored version as much as the original black and white. I stink at coloring! So, thought I would maybe upload this to my scraps and the black and white to my gallery.

You color beautifully!!!! I actually think you color better than me. I fear color! Haha! This is just very simple black and white coloring (I can't remember if that is what it is called) where you take the black and white art and color the shading. It looks too something to me though... orange or pink or, gah! I don't know! Hahaha! I think you and I might just be very critical of ourselves.

No idea how it all called exactly. I heared often the name "grayscale" but if itΒ΄s this ... I know nothing hehe. You mean you put the color in low opacity over orΒ under the shading? I try that but it never looks as good as yours. I donΒ΄t get any natural, soft colors. But I never stop trying and I think I'll learn that yet.

Aye we are both very critical of ourselves but itΒ΄s ok. That means that we really want to learn ... and sometimes IΒ΄m proud too.Β  Β

ThatΒ  sounds about right... grayscale coloring. The way I do it is I lock my shading layer and then colorize it. Not sure how it works in other programs, but I can lock the opacity so when I color over it, it just changes the shading to that color. I will add a base color, too. I don't know how others do it but I know some really great artists almost exclusively use grayscale coloring. They say that it is because they can get a better grasp on the contrast in the piece. I am far from doing what they do, but I can see how that would work.

Exactly!! If we didn't notice our flaws we would probably never improve, right? Haha! There are definitely positives to being a bit critical of ourselves! Yes, me too. Sometimes I have that piece or two that I am kinda proud of.

I have my own layer for everything. If I halve the opacity of the gray layer as well as the color layer, then the shading comes out together, but I still have both layers individually. What you describe here confuses me. Unfortunately, I do not know how exactly you mean that, but I'll test how it's done.

Yes, it is confusing for me to try and explain, too! Haha!

I guess what it does is lock the layer from any changes to what is there except color. So, all the varying degrees of opacity that are in my shade layer are locked. So, then if I try to draw on that layer it just changes where I draw to the color that I currently have selected. So where there is nothing, nothing can be added. Not sure if that helps! It's confusing!

I think I have a rough idea of what you mean. I'll have to test that. Thanks for explaining!Β

I have been waiting for ages for this. Totally worth the wait . I really don't get it why you put it in scraps. It's a beautiful work. I particularly admire how skilfully you captured the scratches and bruises.
