Description Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has a rather fine collection of bosses, but also missed opportunities for bosses that could've been fun to challenge. This image contains various candidates of my choosing for potential boss fights that would have been interesting to see. I have chosen at least 1 from most of each series represented on the roster. Some of them are, or already have been bosses; this is to sort of unify the concept with the results. As such, the existing bosses in the game will receive no further explanations. Also, I have not played every series that is featured, so please understand if I chose one character(s) when another would have been a better fit.

Super Mario:
Giga Bowser
- (Already There)
Petey Piranha
- While he does have a presence in the game already, it is that of a Final Smash which pays homage to the boss fight in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. A reinstatement of the Brawl fight would be enough to bring back the first major fight in the Subspace Emissary.

Donkey Kong:
Kerozene
- Now we actually touch on conceptualizing. Kerozene was probably one of the few good things about the Gameboy Advance port of Donkey Kong Country 2; a brand new boss that nobody had seen before the port was released. Kerozene's attacks would consist of using Kleavers and breathing a nasty flame onto the field. Unfortunately for him, his hands served as platforms. Fight would go similar to the one in his original game, but instead of tossing cannonballs, the fighter would just be jumping and attacking. As for the phases of the fight, forget them. Just let RNG decide what he'd do next.

The Legend of Zelda:
Beast Ganon
- (Already There)
King Dodongo
- Honestly, this fight would probably end up something like the Rathalos fight, only the item that drops would be an explosive of sorts, and the opportunity to use the item would be when King Dodongo opens his mouth. Attacks would simply be fireballs and rolling across the screen.

Metroid:
Kraid
- We finally got Ridley as a playable fighter, so may as well rely on his cohort to fill in the role of a boss battle. The stage would just be a similar layout to Brinstar Depths; Kraid would come out of the depths below and strike the stage, causing it to spin. The difference is Kraid would have more animations this time around, launching projectiles from his claws and abdomen; maybe causing some rocks to fall from the ceiling? Would mostly be vulnerable when he leans in toward the stage.

Yoshi:
Raphael the Raven
- Probably one the the most popular fights in the entire Yoshi franchise; fighting on a small circular stage with its own gravity. Fight would mostly be the same, gravity and all, but fighter attacks would be the source of damage rather than pegs jutting out from the platform's surface.

Kirby:
Marx
- (Already There)

Star Fox:
Andross
- We have his Super Nintendo form as an assist trophy already, so why not have one of his Nintendo 64 or higher forms as a boss? Attacks would consist mostly of hand swipes and projectile vomiting from the head in the background. Hands would be the initial weak points, but once they are gone, Andross would resort to slamming his head into the stage, allowing for it to be attacked.

Pokémon:
Rayquaza
- Simply port over the fight from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Maybe add some new attacks and animations? A mega evolution would be cool for a phase 2 with Dragon Ascent and Draco Meteor.

F-Zero:
Deathborn
- The first fight where I have no idea in how it would go. All I remember of Deathborn is that he is a villain and at some point was holding Black Shadow up by the neck, so I guess make him into a sort of Ganondorf type boss? I'm too lazy to do research on him.

EarthBound:
Porky Minch
- Another simple port would suffice. Maybe give him some more personality and/or a voice?

Fire Emblem:
Ashnard & Rajaion
- Once again, I know very little about these 2. The difference between this situation and Deathborn? I care far less about this than the latter, so I just chose the main antagonist from Ike's game line. No idea how the fight would play out; just wanted to fill in a Fire Emblem boss.

Kid Icarus:
Twinbellows
- While there are several bosses to choose from, I feel Twinbellows would fit a boss fight smoother than various other candidates. I would imagine him breathing fire in various ways, jumping into the background and pouncing on the stage again, and charging forward? I guess Hewdraw could work, too; if anything, just for mid-fight dialogue.

Wario:
Black Jewel
- Warioware isn't exactly a series with standard boss fights, which means I would need to search in the classic Wario games. My choice, the Black Jewel from the ever bizarre Wario World. It represents Wario's greed rather well, coming to have a crack at him. A simple fight however, as the Jewel only appears to fire lasers and slam itself into the ground to produce shockwaves. I'd imagine the same would be translated into a Super Smash Bros. boss battle. As for why I chose this over Shake King? Because Wario World needs more love.

Metal Gear:
Metal Gear RAY
- While REX is far more iconic, you fight RAY way more often. I'd guess that this fight would be more difficult than most; RAY jumping around everywhere from the stage to the background and back, firing a barrage of missiles towards the stage, and swiftly sweeping its tail. The fight could be made more interesting if Liquid Snake were the one to pilot it, with dialogue to match of course.

Sonic the Hedgehog:
Dr. Eggman & Death Egg Robot
- While the robot could technically have an autopilot feature, more times than not, Eggman is taking the helm of it. Such has been done in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, and Sonic Generations. Meanwhile, Death Egg Robots were only mass produced with autopilot in Sonic Forces. I also just want an Eggman boss fight (I want my dialogue, too). A battle with this mechanical goliath would involve it launching its fists at you and having them drop onto the stage and return to the body, the robot flying into the air and then landing onto the stage in an aim to crush you, walking towards you with an active hurt box on the bottom of its feet, extending its fist to jab the ground where you are standing, and electrifying its body every now and then when it is weak.

Pikmin:
Plasm Wraith
- Personally, I have 0 experience playing Pikmin, as well as very little interest in it. I chose an iconic boss, so here you go!

Mega Man:
Yellow Devil
- Simply turn the stage boss fight into an actual boss fight, but with more health. I'd also take Dr. Wily dialogue. Easy!

Punch-Out!!:
Mr. Sandman
- A fast and heavy hitter who would do anything to prove he's still the champ. Now that motivation is out of the way, imagine a Little Mac moveset, but taller, lacks grabbing and (standard) jumping, and occasionally plays dirty; not to mention the punches hit way harder.

Mii Series:
Dark Emperor
- A super easy choice for this series, especially since it is already a stage boss. Like the stage boss, it would unleash stat changing atmosphere, beit buffs or nerfs to your character of choice. It would also sometimes let out stunning screams, slash with its claws, or chomp with its beak.

PAC-MAN:
King Spooky
- I've never played any of the PAC-MAN World games, but Spooky seems like he would make a good enough boss fight. Boom, slot filled. I'd also rather it be a boss from a PAC-MAN game than something else from classic Namco.

Xenoblade Chronicles:
Metal Face
- No experience playing this series, but I'm sure the stage boss could be converted into an actual boss with relative ease.

Street Fighter:
M. Bison
- Another series where I have little experience. All I know is that from what I've seen, M. Bison would make for a better boss fight as he's made more alliances with other villains than Akuma has. Attacks would draw from his Street Fighter series moveset, of course.

Final Fantasy:
Behemoth
- Not that Square would even consider adding a boss, but if they did, may as well make it an iconic and recurring one throughout the Final Fantasy franchise. No idea what kind of attacks one does, so I'm assuming bites, slashes, and punches?

Bayonetta:
Fortitudo
- I'm guilty in saying that I've never played a Bayonetta game. No motivation for me to do so, either. So here, have a giant enemy that worked as a boss in the series and can probably be translated to Super Smash Bros..

Splatoon:
DJ Octavio
- Who else would I choose? The fight would be similar to that of Andross', but while you still attack the fists as the main target is in the background, the fists fly back towards Octavio to damage him. His arsenal would consist of missiles, bombs, launching enormous metal fists, and the ink that is produced from his weaponry slows down player movement.

Castlevania:
Dracula
- (Already There)

Shin Megami Tensei/Persona:
Beelzebub
- I've taken the time to research Persona for potential boss fights, but none of them stood out to me since the protagonists are targeting everyday people with terribly ill but unaligned intentions. So I picked a boss from Shin Megami Tensei. Less experience, but hey, it's a boss. Go nuts!

Dragon Quest:
Zoma
- Yet another series I have no experience with. I heard Dragon Quest 3 is one of the most iconic games in the franchise, so I picked its main antagonist. Looks like some kind of wizard, so magic attacks it is! Enix would also be more likely to donate a boss rather than Square, given how much love Dragon Quest got over Final Fantasy.

Banjo-Kazooie:
Gruntilda Winkybunion
- While I adored Banjo-Tooie far more than the first game, I feel those bosses pale in comparison to the original boss of the franchise. A conversion of her attacks in Banjo-Kazooie from 3D to 2D, as well as removing phase progression, would fit nicely for a boss battle.

Fatal Fury:
Geese Howard
- Less experience with this one than M. Bison, but same principle; draw from his ingame moveset. Maybe a cutscene afterward with him falling off a building?

Monster Hunter:
Rathalos
- (Already There)

Super Smash Bros.:
Master Hand
- (Already There)
Crazy Hand
- (Already There)
Galeem
- (Already There)
Dharkon
- (Already There)
Galleom
- (Already There)
Duon
- Port the fight over with some fresh animations and a rage mode, like with how Galleom transitioned over.
Tabuu
- There is plenty more potential for this fight to receive an upgrade, since his moveset appears to consist of arcane forces. New attacks can easily be arranged.
Master Core
- Port the fight over with some fresh animations; just leave out the Master Fortress phase. That never needed to exist unless it were used as a post battle stage in a better adventure mode.

---

As you have probably noticed, I've left out a number of series from having a boss fight. That is because I really couldn't think of anything good enough to draw from those games. Octopus from Game & Watch maybe, but it would look incredibly bizarre to have an entire boss fight against it.

No ARMS boss, since the character representation from that game has yet to be announced (at the time of this post).

I reiterate, I LOVE Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but no game is exempt from having missed potential pointed out. Nonetheless, I look forward to the future character announcements.

considered 02, but we already had a Kirby boss (one i prefer more tbh).

Giygas would be a tricky situation since Nintendo doesn't wanna show his original form outside of sprite-work, and his EarthBound form... how would one go about fighting that? unless of course you straight up fight the Devil's Machine.

if Mike became playable, of course. Zoda would be a fun fight. alas, only went off of existing bosses and bosses from series represented on the playable roster.

already have RAY

Dr. Eggman could have been a great pick to fight with.
