Description My second piece of Steampunk jewelry. This goes with my necklace.

This is what I call a Bringlet. I made this with assorted Watch and Pocketwatch pieces, crazy glue and nail glue (Nail glue is surprisingly strong!) as well as the assorted tools needed to link the chains and links and such.

There are a few inherent dangers with wearing this bringlet, but I've gotten used to most of them. First and foremost - it catches on absolutely -everything-. Second, is the big gear on the wrist part is very pointy, and tends to bite unsuspecting boyfriends trying to cuddle.

Creating the Bringlet took a while, mostly figuring out logistics (where to connect what, so that it maximized the idea I was going for). The middle piece was rotated 180 degrees the first version of this, but having the chains start so close together meant that they refused to go around my knuckle at all, so I switched it up. And initially, there was only one chain around the finger, but that caused the charm on the finger to stand up! So I had to add a piece to it so I could add a second chain.
And then once I figured that out, I had to slowly take links off of the middle pieces, so that it wouldn't hinder me when my hand was in a fist, but wasn't too loose when my had wasn't in a fist.

Then after all that... I had to figure out how to put it on without help! After a great deal of fighting with it one handed trying to twist the clasp into itself, I figured out how to succeed - using my teeth! Using my teeth, I can now do up my bringlet faster then someone can do it up for me. It's hardly graceful, but it's good, since I have to put it on every morning before I go out... I can't sleep with all the poky bits lest I wake up with puncture wounds.

Anyways, that's all my rambling. Constructive critism is welcome

What a wonderful idea! hadn't thought of hand flowers and steampunk going together before, but this works quite well.

No sorry, it was custom made to fit my (small!) hands. That and I've lost it...

WOW! WOW! WOW! Beautiful work! LOVE IT! I am new to the Steampunk obsession but I will definitely be doing some awesome Steampunk jewelry VERY VERY SOON!
As a jewelry maker myself, I would have used a different clasp. If you ever make another you might consider it... It's called a toggle clasp. These are amazingly easy to do one-handed. And there are ALOT of them out there that would TOTALLY work with the Steampunk look!

Just in case you don't know what the toggle clasp is...here's a link:

And WOW! Keep up the AWESOME work!

Sorry I took so long to respond. I just moved, no internets.

I'v used toggle clasps for other stuff, but for my bringlet, it needs to fit very snugly, and a toggle clasp is too loose.

Thanks for the comments!

This looks absolutely gorgeous! Can I just ask please, where did you find your cogs? I see they are quite big ones. Are they just with pocket watches etc? Thankyou. By the way, again a lovely piece of work!! xx

I see I'm not the first person to be immensely impressed. ^^
I'm also probably not the first to ask... would you consider or do you already make these to sell?

I want to sell some, eventually. Right now I'm still having a hard time finding supplies. Been playing with other jewelry such things too. Thinking of starting up an Etsy shop in the next few months.

Wow, this is pretty damn cool

So you stuck the watch parts together with glue? How's that held together, has anything fallen off? Sorry for the questions but i'm considering making some steampunk jewelry myself and i'm curious

Goagleon In reply to Espiroth [2009-04-25 07:28:50 +0000 UTC]

I actually used a few different glues. Honestly haven't found one that works PERFECT, but then again, my bringlet goes through a lot. I've used Nail glue, crazy glue, and 5-minute epoxy. All work fairly well.

Good luck!

However did you acquire antique watches? I've been thinking of making my own steampunk stuff, but I'm not sure where to get materials.

eBay. I found all of one by scouring my local shops, and in the end it was eBay that did the trick. Good luck!

Where did you get the larger metal plates, the ones the chains are linked to? It's a beautiful piece of jewelry and I envy you for it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Goagleon In reply to Rakshiv-Fire-Runner [2008-09-14 06:52:26 +0000 UTC]

The larger metal plates are from old antique pocketwatches - all of the gears and such were originally attached to it.

Thanks for the comment and the fave.
