Description
A little something I made for fun as well as something to commemorate the spin-off series to SEGA's Sonic the Hedgehog video games, Sonic Boom which first started airing its TV and releasing the first two games since November 2014 which I'd really enjoyed. Anyways, here below is what I will discus for what if Sonic Boom's version of Sonic joins Nintendo's Super Smash Bros.
Info: Sonic the Hedgehog from the Sonic Boom Franchise which consists of three video games, a TV show, comic book and more which acts as a spin-off to the mainstream Sonic series of games. Compared to the main series Sonic, Boom Sonic (Is who I as well as the narration voice for Smash would call him.) is a little taller than the blue hero, has blue arms, wears a brown scarf around his neck and sports tape around his wrists and ankles. In this series, Sonic is the leader of Team Sonic, a group of heroes who protect their home island and the entire world from the evil forces of Dr. Eggman as well as multiple other villains such as Lyric the Last Ancient. If Boom Sonic were to join his main series counterpart in Super Smash Bros., he would be more of a semi-clone to Sonic and not an echo-fighter and will have little bit of speed and jump height. You could say he would be like an answer between Mario and Dr. Mario or between Link, Young Link and Toon Link as I will go into details on his moveset and gimmicks.
Character Animations
Entry: Comes in from above with a smooth landing before standing up right to face his opponents.
Ideal animation: Same as how Boom Sonic is when standing still in Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric.
Tilting: Tilting the control stick left or right gently will have Boom Sonic walk like he does in Rise of Lyric while tilting the control stick all the way left or right will have him start jogging.
Dashing: Tilting the control stick left or right quickly will have Boom Sonic start running at fast speed with his arms hanging back behind just like what main series Sonic does.
Crouch: Tilting the control stick down will have Sonic kneeling down and placing his hands over his head which can be used to avoid incoming projectiles up to his height level.
Jump and Double Jump: Tilting the control stick upwards or pressing the Y or X buttons will have Sonic perform a jump while rolling his body forwards. Doing so again will have him continue rolling forward until he starts free falling. Unlike main series Sonic who’s jump is based off of the Spin Jump attack, Boom Sonic’s jump is just regular while also being taking from the games he appears in.
Basic Moveset
Neutral B: By pressing A, Boom Sonic will perform a three-roadhouse kick combo that deal basic damage. If up-close and used on an enemy, Boom Sonic will be able to deliver two more attacks which are another roundhouse kick while the last will be an upper horizontal kick that will knock the foe far back and perhaps more depending on their damage rate.
Dash Attack: While dashing and pressing the A button, Boom Sonic will curl into a spin ball and will ram into the opponent in his way which will knock them off their feat. Based off of the weaker version of the forward Spin Dash attack.
Side-Tilt: Tilting the control stick left or right while pressing the A button will have Boom Sonic do The Horse Kick which is similar to main series Sonic’s Side-Tilt. It hits twice, has minimal start-up lag, and can be angled. Altogether, these traits make it useful for spacing, starting tech-chases, or as an out of shield option.
Up-Tilt: Tilting the control stick upwards while pressing the A button will have Boom Sonic perform a 540 kick, similar to main series Sonic’s up tilt. Its decent vertical range makes it a fairly useful anti-air attack, although it has poor horizontal range.
Down-Tilt: Tilting the control stick downwards and pressing the A button will have Boom Sonic perform a legsweep that will sweep foes of their feet; similar to Sonic’s Down-Tilt being based off of the Foot Sweep from the main series’ games. Its diagonal angle can lead to combos at lower percents.
Side-Smash: By quickly tilting the control stick left or right while pressing the A button or tilting the C stick left or right, Boom Sonic will lash forward and perform a rapid kick attack which will send foes backwards with knockback. This move is based off of the Charge Attack from Rise of Lyric where each of the four playable characters besides Sonic uses this move to deal powerful damage to enemies. While charging this attack and if let go at the right moment, the attack’s damage rate will be even more powerful as it will even send foes flying off the stage.
Up-Smash: By quickly tilting the control stick upwards while pressing the A button or tilting the C stick upwards, Boom Sonic will jump off the floor and curl into a spin ball that will deal multiple damage to foes who are caught in-close or directly above. Like main series Sonic’s Up-Smash, this move is based on the classic Spin Jump Attack, but with a slightly given feature like the Side-Smash. If charged at the right moment before releasing the control stick, Boom Sonic’s body will become surrounded in blue aura and any foe caught will be given more damage than they received before which will send them flying off the stage.
Down-Smash: By quickly tilting the control stick downwards and pressing the A button or tilting the C stick downwards, Boom Sonic curls up into a ball and spin dashes back and forth over a short distance within the spot as any foe caught up-close will be knocked back by two hits from this attack. This is taken from Sonic’s Down-Smash which was used in Super Smash Bros. Brawl while being based on the Dizzy Spin from Sonic the Fighters. Like the other Smash Attacks, this one has a given feature. If charged at the right moment before releasing the control stick, Boom Sonic’s Spin Dash will be covered in blue aura that will deal more damage to foes on any side and will send them away with knockback.
Neutral Aerial: By pressing the A button while in mid-air, Boom Sonic will perform a Spin Attack while covered in blue aura that deals a bit of damage to foes that are close to him.
Forward Aerial: By tilting the control stick in the direction Boom Sonic is facing and pressing the A button while in mid-air, he will perform a corkscrew battering ram just like his “main series counterpart’s” Forward Aerial. Like Sonic’s Forward Aerial, it’s tied with up aerial for the lowest amount of start-up lag out of his's aerials.
Back Aerial: By tilting the control stick in the opposite direction Boom Sonic is not facing and pressing the A button while in mid-air, he will slightly turn his body and head around to face that direction and will perform a hook kick. Its clean hitbox's impressive damage output and high knockback growth make it one of Boom Sonic's best kill moves, especially when used for edge guarding. The move is also one of the more powerful of its type when hit clean. However, it does have moderately high start-up lag, making it somewhat tough to land.
Up Aerial: By tilting the control stick upwards and pressing the A button while in mid-air, Boom Sonic will perform an upwards scissor kick, similar to main series Sonic’s Up Aerial, but with a little extended reach.
Down Aerial: By tilting the control stick downwards and pressing the A button while in mid-air, Boom Sonic will curl into a ball and will fall straight downwards very fast. If any foe is caught by direct contact, Boom Sonic will bounce right off of them and will do a mid-air somersault. This move can be used to combo with Boom Sonic’s Homing Attack if the hit foe is still within range. This attack is based on Sonic’s Stomp attack used in Rise of Lyric. It can also be used as a meteor smash on foes if they are at high damage rate while off the stage.
Grabs and Throws
Grab: Unlike the way Main Series Sonic grabs foes at a normal basis with his two hands, Boom Sonic will grab his enemies using the “The Enerbeam” made by his best friend and side-kick, Misle “Tails” Prower. As its name implies, the Enerbeam is a tether made of several energy bolts intertwined to form a solid whip from the user's wrist which can extend and contract when necessary. As a tool, the Enerbeam can latch onto targets to pull them in, lasso enemies, or let the user swing from point to point. In Smash, Boom Sonic will be able to use the Enerbeam to grab foes that are about 2 meters away from his position and pull them in before grabbing them with both hands. This grab also comes with a unique gimmick as Boom Sonic will not only be able to grab foes, but incoming projectiles as well. If used at the right moment once the projectile is close, he will use the Enerbeam to grab and swing it right back in the opposite direction or can throw it aside for it to keep moving onward to a different target.
Jab: After grabbing a foe, Boom Sonic will fairly fast pummel them with a knee strike while pressing the A button.
Forward Throw: By tilting the control stick in the direction Boom Sonic is facing while he is holding his opponent, he’ll use the Enerbeam to swing them around for a second before throwing them away further ahead which can also be used to knock them into other foes dealing damage just like he does in Rise of Lyric.
Back Throw: By tilting the control stick in the direction Boom Sonic is not facing while he is holding his opponent, he’ll use the Enerbeam to swing them around for a second before turning himself around to face the opposite direction and throwing them over there; also dealing damage to other foes who get knocked into by the thrown one.
Up Throw: By tilting the control stick upwards while Boom Sonic is holding his opponent, he’ll use the Enerbeam to swing them around for a second before throwing them upwards into the air. The thrown foe can even be used to knock into foes that might be directly above; dealing damage afterwards.
Down Throw: By tilting the control stick downwards while Boom Sonic is holding his opponent, he’ll leap-frog jump over the opponent while using the Enerbeam to then lift them up, swing them over above before throwing them down into the ground and burying them. This can also be used to slam the foe down onto other foes; burying them also.
Special Attacks
Standard-Special: Homing Attack
By pressing the B button, Boom Sonic will curl into a spin ball and jump upwards for a second before dashing forward in the direction he is facing before landing. If a foe is nearby, a target mark will appear; indicating for Boom Sonic lock-on to the target and home in on them with his Spin Attack. Unlike main series Sonic’s Homing Attack, this one is unique in its own way as Boom Sonic will be able to performed up to three times in succession with attack on foes by pressing the B button again at the right moment. Trying to use it for a fourth time will make Boom Sonic land on the ground with a powerful stomp, creating a shockwave upon impact that deals major damage to the foe within range which will also affect other opponents caught within.
Side-Special: Spin Dash
By pressing the B button and tilting the control stick in the direction Boom Sonic is facing, he will curl into a spin ball and charge for a mere second before imminently dashing ahead which will deal a little bit of damage to foes that come into his way before he stops spinning afterwards. While if this is used in the air, he’ll imminently Spin Dash while falling. Unlike main series Sonic’s Spin Dash, this one is unique in its own way as Boom Sonic will be able to performed up to three times in succession with attack on foes by pressing the B button again at the right moment. Trying to use it for a fourth time will make Boom Sonic dash right through the foe, knocking them off their feet; Similar to both Fox and Falco’s Side-Special, Fox Illusion and Falco Phantasm.
Up-Special: Air Dash
By pressing the B button and tilting the control stick upwards, Boom Sonic surround himself in a blue aura and will shoot a short distance through mid-air upwards at incredible speed. Based on the move used in Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal and Fire & Ice, the Air Dash is primarily used to destroy dash blocks and to attack enemies as well as gain elevation to reach places as this will act as a recovery for Boom Sonic. This attack will deal damage to foes in two ways. If the foe is a little close from the sides, the damage they’ll receive is minimum, but if directly above, the rate is major as this will send them upwards with knockback. This move can be used again for a second time to gain extra height and will also act in a way as like a second Side-Special as Boom Sonic will be able to do the Air Dash sideways if tilting the control stick left or right when pressing the B button afterwards.
Down-Special: Spin Charge
By pressing the B button and tilting the control stick downwards, Boom Sonic will curl into a ball and start spinning before spin dashing across the stage and will deal damage to foes caught in the way while dashing past them afterwards. Holding the B button down will have Boom Sonic keep charging unless it is let go. The longer the charge, the longer his Spin Dash will last before coming out of it afterwards.
Final Smash: Team-Work!
After grabbing the Smash Ball or when the FS Meter is charged and pressing the B button, Sonic will dash towards the one, two or three foes which will knock them into the air after being hit. Then, a cinematic scene tacking place at a rocky terrain plays as Tails, Knuckles and Amy wrap their Eyebeams around the foes; holding them in place as Sonic who is covered in fire-like aura stands by with Sticks until he speeds his way towards the foes while the badge follows up by throwing her Boomerang which is covered in ice-like aura as both the hedgehog and the weapon attack foes all over with multiple hits using the power of Fire & Ice. If foes are at high damage rate, this will send them flying off the stage, instantly K.O.ing them.

Victory Animations
Victory Theme: Short version of the main title theme music from Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal.
1: It goes with Sonic doing a fast spinning dance before doing jump and faces the camera as he does a thumps-up before crossing arms and looking away a few times. This is a reference to when finishing a stage in Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal.
2: It starts with Boom Sonic using his speed to dash around a fissure and fixes it before facing the camera while smiling and crossing his arms and saying (Aw yeah!) This is a reference to when finishing a stage in Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice.
3: It starts when after Sonic hits a glass ball and shatters it, he along with Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Sticks jump high into the air together as he’ll say (Great Job, Guys!) This references to the animation after defeating Lyric in the final boss battle of Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal.
And that is all for what if Boom Sonic joined Smash. I know to a lot of you that this might never happen, but I just wanted to show and explain to you all just for fun if it did. When thinking how the Sonic Boom franchise could be represented into Smash with the mainstream Sonic series, I was originally trying to think of a way if Sticks the Badger would have been the playable representative instead of Boom Sonic, but the only trouble I had finding was coming up with a recovery move as she doe not have so in the end I just went with doing Sonic instead since he is the main character of that series just like his in-game counterpart is. I know and was aware how badly the first game Rise of Lyric received by players who played the game and got angry due to the glitches the staff who worked on the game left behind due to time constrains, but I still played through and completing it till the very end as the same can be said with Shattered Crystal and Fire & Ice since those two were more close to the main Sonic games being 2D high-speed platformers. So I would still give my regards to those who worked well and hard on the games and the TV show which I hope we get a 3rd season. Pluss I just want Sticks to come back and maybe appear in games outside of her own franchise and maybe have the main series and Boom cross paths with one another which would be epic. But I guess a man can only dream of that for now. Anyways I hope you like the pic and the idea of a potential moveset I thought up for Boom Sonic if he were to join Smash. Please give me your comments on what you think of the idea. Thank you!
