-- You may reblog this at my Tumblr: peacheriie.tumblr.com --Environment concept for a story in one of my school's project classes. The theme is David and Goliath, and in my story my David is a female squirrel and Goliath is a big brutish bully of a bear. Davina owns this quaint little cafe at the edge of a forest, where she serves up cute foresty treats like little grass cupcakes, nutty desserts and rainwater or morning dew in homemade acorn cups, a few of which can be seen in that little hollow where her cafe is.
It was really fun coming up with the forest-theme things, thinking of how to make a cafe look like it's part of the natural environment, yet still retain some recognisable characteristics like the tables, chairs, etc. So this was fun.
It's not often we get so much freedom in school classes so I'm making as much use of it as I can!

Oh my goodness this is so awesome.
The color scheme is great, the composition might be better (the hill with the trees on the left takes more attention than the cafe; decreasing the hill's contrast and shifting the cafe a little to the left would help), but the lines nicely lead the eye around; the style is fun, as is the concept from what I read.

Hmm. For this particular piece I looked at a lot of environment concepts and explored many different compositions to try to find one that was the most suitable and most appealing. I guess the most important thing is experimenting? It often helps to explore different concepts and not settle down to one too quickly. Same goes with technique, I like to use this kind of painterly, illustrative style but there are many that you can experiment with depending on the kind of mood and style you want.
