Bit of a story behind this. After hearing Star Fox Zero possibly being a reboot-- Actually no, this idea started about after Star Fox Command came out and hearing the negative attention it received. Specifically about Krystal (though there was more criticism about the game than just her and her character.). See, I like Krystal but the criticism about her character is more than justified. She's introduced as a love interest first and a character second. When she's not being sidelined as a support she and her emotions are used and forced as a plot device to further the story or her romance with Fox rather than developing her as a character. It's actually kind of sad considering she has telepathy and seems to be good at melee or ground combat which can lead to some interesting adventures(hah) and different missions with her as a playable character.

So, once I hear the idea of Star Fox Zero being a reboot I was feeling two things. One, sad as they felt they couldn't continue the story with its current continuity. Two, desperately hopeful for a re-introducing of Krystal though I am doubtful. The idea of Krystal being re-introduced suddenly got me whirring on imagining what she'd be like redone and that led to building a backstory as well as world building.

Krystal is a member of the Terra Guard, an extraordinary government owned militaristic group that excels at being one of the best ground forces any planet could ever have. They take on enemies from sky, ground, and sea while still remaining on the planet's soil which says much about their tech and skill. Krystal herself tends to be a scout when on the job in which she definitely has the advantage with her telepathy, a strange ability even she is not clear of where it came from. Thanks to her aggressiveness in battle she ends up breaking her equipment more often than not which angers her squad mechanic, Fay, to no end. It also doesn't help that her leader, tactician, and battle partner Miyu is just as reckless with their tools. Before the Terra Guard Krystal's life was colorful, getting taken from her home at an early age, having to survive through being a captive of space bandits, being a refugee in poorly supervised ports, to hiding in a raider ship and end up being crash landed to the planet that holds the Terra Guard, the first group of people to give her a choice, a home, and a family.
Krystal is mellow yet upbeat, optimistic enough to look forward to something but realistic enough to know when events wont be in her favor. She keeps as calm as she can in combat and is one of the best fighters among her squad. Krystal uses (for lack of a better word) a powersuit for outdoor combat, especially against air fighters and ground tanks and always comes armed with a projectile shooting staff.
