Description I woke up extra early this morning and went to take some pictures of downtown, Grand Rapids, Michigan.

These pictures are kind of an experiment. I've been learning about HDR photography. In case you are not familiar with this, HDR stands for high dynamic range. HDR photos are comprised of at least 3 different images of the same scene, one underexposed, one overexposed, and one normal. I've seen some really stunning images using this technique. So I figured I'd try it out, let me know what you think.

The river is really high right now. There are lots of ice chunks floating downstream, which created an interesting effect with the slow shutter speed.

Oh, also, I just bought a Nikon D90 so I'm looking forward to using it.

I love the way this looks. I adore the way downtown Grand Rapids looks at night.

Great colors! You make Grand Rapids look prettier than it is! It seems whenever I pass through downtown GR and find photogenic locations, I never have my camera with me! How unfortunate. Anyways, I like this a lot. I don't think I've seen many nighttime HDRs. Sweet!

I would like to try something like this. Do you remember what your F-stop was?

What program do you use to superimpose the images?

I love going into Grand Rapids at night. ( : I live in Wyoming, MI and have no car, or bike, so that doesn't happen very often. This shot is a beautiful one.

These photos are an excellent example of photography as an art form - I love the brilliant colors, and the feeling that you are actually there is even more powerful than that of a typical photo...

Hi Brian- I've been o.k. Kinda bogged down in a painting that seems to be taking forever to finsih. It gets tedious, and sometimes I switch to a couple of other subjects. I am refering to my barbershop theme.
Our dear cat was sick recently and it just about sucked the life out of Lynn and I. Today, though, Percy began to show signs of energy and well-being, noticeably. We went to the vet- $200+.
Terribly relieved that Christmas is over- I cannot afford it!
We had weeks of snow- even here in the Vancouver area!
Your photography is fascinating.
Hope you are ding very well, Brian.

I think this one turned out better than the 2nd. Just because the buildings seemed a little to intense and in this on they seem to fit in better with the rest of the intense colors.

Excellent! I also use a Nikon D40 & have been experimenting with HDR. I also live just outside Grand Ledge, Michigan so I know the spot you shot!

HDR is pretty cool. I think I will be using it a lot. I am going to try to be subtle with it...a lot more subtle than this pic. Thanks.
