Description
Oh yeah I finished this surprisingly fast!
Now it's Kowamon's turn to be redrawn! .w./ Kowamon the bat digimon with pretty unintentional Halloween-y colors, oops.
We're getting into weird territory now, Kowamon and the digimon coming after him are like... Really old. Like, designs from 2005, 2006 and 2007. It feels pretty surreal and nostalgic drawing almost ten-year old designs again, but also pretty great to finally get to update some of the more awful designs.
Kowamon's evoline didn't really go through a lot of redesigning, just general updating and streamlining. I guess the ones that changed the most are Tsuruvemon and Tooboemon.
Kowamon's evoline is modeled after bats, in some way with the "generic bird digimon" model I guess. He's also one of the few of my digimon who have mode changes. Tooboemon Sanguine Baron is one nasty fellow, and he was always supposed to be kind of a villain. His attacks are way OP on purpouse because of this. Maybe one day I'll use him somewhere as a big bad?
Kowamon is really old and maybe a bit boring but hey he's MY boring bat digimon. ;w; Very dear to me. (Actually I think he was the first digimon I designed properly after getting back into digimon around 2005 when Savers was announced.)
Koomumon - Bikumon - Kowamon - Vespertimon - Tsuruvemon - Tooboemon - Tooboemon Sanguine Baron
Partner(s) - Nobody at the moment.
Featured in - Nowhere at the moment.
------------------------------------------------
Koomumon
Name Origin: Japanese. Kômori = bat. Mushi = bug.
Level: Baby I.
Type: Larva.
Attacks
- Poison Lick - licks the foe, secreting numbing saliva.
Personality: Pretty curious, he examines things by putting them in his mouth. In general he’s just constantly eating.
Trivia: Small digimon resembling a larva, its saliva contains weak paralyzing agents. It’s constantly eating, gathering energy to grow bigger.
Bikumon
Name Origin: Japanese. Biku = eep!
Level: Baby II.
Type: Lesser.
Attacks
- Scary Grin - bites the opponent.
Personality: Happy and childish, he likes to be carried around by bigger creatures. Way more social than the aloof Kowamon.
Trivia: Young digimon with large ears, it has excellent hearing. Because of its great hearing, it can keep track of things going on around it, allowing it to hide from danger in time.
Kowamon
Name Origin: Japanese. Kowai = scary.
Level: Child.
Attribute: Virus.
Type: Beast.
Family: Nightmare Soldiers, Wind Guardians.
Attacks
- Black Flame - shoots black fireballs from his mouth.
- Bat Claw - attacks the foe with his claws.
Personality: Kind of aloof, Kowamon is a bit of a lone wolf who mostly enjoys his own company and often alienates others with rudeness, sarcasm and his rather dark sense of humor. He’s a bit of a jerk, but deep down he has a heart of gold, and is surprisingly altruistic. His trust isn’t easily won, but he cherishes those close to him. Though he tries to stay distant from others, if he sees unjust things happening, he can’t help himself but defend the underdog. He’s pretty secretive about his past, even among friends.
Trivia: A bat-shaped digimon with good senses of hearing and sight, it's well known for its ability to see in the dark. It has large hands it can also use as wings and fly quite well. The Digital Hazard marks all over its body exist to warn other digimon of Tooboemon Sanguine Baron's destructive strength, though this is its best-kept secret.
Vespertimon
Name Origin: Latin. Vespertilo = bat.
Level: Adult.
Attribute: Virus.
Type: Beast.
Family: Nightmare Soldiers, Wind Guardians.
Attacks
- Dark Burst - shoots large black fireballs from his mouth.
- Talon Smash - slashes the air in V shape, sending V-shaped purple energy blades to hit his foe.
Personality: The same as Kowamon, really.
Trivia: Beast digimon resembling a bat. With its strong legs and balancing tail, it’s actually quite fast on the ground, but with its huge wings, it excels in flight. It has great senses of hearing and sight and it’s able to see in pitch-black darkness. It’s a skilled hunter of the night.
Tsuruvemon
Name Origin: Japanese and Latin. Tsurugi = sword. Vespertilo = bat.
Level: Perfect.
Attribute: Virus.
Type: Beast Man.
Family: Nightmare Soldiers, Wind Guardians.
Attacks
- Enchanted Blade – turns his scarf into a sharp blade, and attacks the foe with the blade wielded in his hand. Tsuruvemon is able to turn either just one or both ends of the scarf into blades at the same time.
- Flurry of Blades – turns both ends of his scarf into sharp, serrated blades, and charges at the foe while spinning, forming a tornado of wildly slashing blades.
- Midnight Flame – creates a large black fireball on his palm and throws it at the foe.
Personality: The same as Kowamon and Vespertimon. His personality doesn’t really change.
Trivia: Beast Man digimon wielding a wondrous scarf. This digimon has wings, but it’s pretty poor at flying, and is faster on its feet. The scarf it possesses is made of fine material as light as silk, but on command, it will transform into sturdy and sharp metallic substance, like a fine blade. It is rumoured the scarf came from Witchenly, the realm of magic-using digimon. Wherever it came from, without its scarf, Tsuruvemon’s battle capabilities drop, and the scarf is its priced treasure.
Tooboemon
Name Origin: Japanese. Tooboe = howl.
Level: Ultimate.
Attribute: Virus.
Type: Demon Beast.
Family: Nightmare Soldiers, Wind Guardians.
Attacks
- Undead Flame – shoots a stream of black fire from his mouth.
- Dark Nimbus – covers himself in an aura of black fire and charges at the foe covered in flames.
- Vampire Scream – lets out a bloodcurdling howl, immobilizing and demoralizing opponents. Weaker opponents will be immobilized for a short while, more resistant will just be startled.
Personality: Basically the same as Kowamon, though Tooboemon is even more rude and secretive. He’s pretty keen on making sure nobody gets close to him. He’s constantly worrying about the possibility of going through Mode Change.
Trivia: An Ultimate-level Demon Beast digimon, it is shaped like a crossbreed of wolf and bat. It breathes out pitch-black hellfire, and its body is completely fireproof. It’s a lonely beast of the night, known to be aggressive. It is surprisingly weak for an Ultimate-digimon, but some suspect it’s holding something back. There are a lot of rumours going on about it, stating it drinks digimon’s life force and takes the free will of other digimon. However, Tooboemon is actually quite harmless… Compared to the Sanguine Baron…
Tooboemon Sanguine Baron
Name Origin: English. Sanguine. Baron.
Level: Ultimate.
Attribute: Virus.
Type: Demon Man.
Family: Dark Area.
Attacks
- Undead Flame – forms spheres of black fire on his palms and throws them at the foe. The fire spheres explode into a sea of flames on contact.
- Sword of Burden – attacks the foe with his unholy sword, plainly or covered in black flames. Digimon wounded with the black flames suffer from burning wounds that keep on dealing damage for a while and can’t be extinguished normally.
- Commanding Symphony – plays an intriguing and hypnotic tune with his violin, hypnotizing the victims to follow his commands. He can only take a hold of a handful of victims at once, and must keep on playing to maintain full control. After the playing stops, depending on the victim’s strength and willpower, they will slowly regain consciousness.
- Nightmare Sonata – plays an intense and aggressive tune with his violin, forcing the foes into an illusionary spell. The victims see illusions of awful, hellish nightmares. They can escape the illusion by blocking their hearing in time, or when Sanguine Baron stops playing.
- Song of Undeath – plays a serene yet eerie tune with his violin, trapping his victims in deep, supernatural sleep. Victims affected by the sleep spell can’t be woken up by mundane means, and must either be awoken by Sanguine Baron, holy powers, or by restoring their consciousness from their core.
Personality: Nothing like Kowamon at all. Tooboemon Sanguine Baron appears like a true gentleman – he’s seemingly polite, charming, charismatic and good with words. However, he’s cruel and monstrous, and doesn’t think of anyone’s safety but himself. He sees others merely as expendable resources, and feels absolutely no loyalty or companionship. He finds pleasure in making others suffer and beauty in torment and murder. The more people he can terrorise at once, the better. He knows exactly how powerful he is, and enjoys tormenting whole villages at once. He’s creepily calm most of the time, but if he’s harmed enough, he falls into bloodlust and becomes a nightmarish monster.
Trivia: Tremendously powerful and truly frightening Demon Man digimon. It is the embodiment of all the potent energy Tooboemon held inside, and the reason why, all through its life, Kowamon has been marked with the Digital Hazard sign. Sanguine Baron is a vampire-like, terrifying demon who feeds on the life energy of other digimon, eating away their very cores. It wields a wondrous shape-shifting violin, called Czar. Music played with this violin affects the very mind of its victims, and makes Sanguine Baron a threatening enemy. The violin can also turn into a Chrome Digizoid sword at Sanguine Baron’s command, protecting it from being destroyed. Sanguine Baron’s very essence is sealed inside Kowamon, but cannot be fully destroyed unless Kowamon is destroyed, too.

Bat Digimon! There's a sore lack of Bat Digimon in general. Vespertimon is my personal fave. just because of how imposing the wing span is.

Bats are cool, digimon are cool, so bat digimon are extra cool!

Yup. And there's only, like... Pipismon, for Bandai official Digimon?
That's why the custom Digimon I made ages ago had a bat like Ultimate. That and I thought a flying Ultimate would be most useful.

Well it can also be debated if PicoDevimon (DemiDevimon) is a bat, I guess he's a tiny devil, but, he's pretty bat-like? In any case, not many official bat digis.
Flight can be really useful!

True. But, well, that only brings the grand total up to two. That and Pipismon reaches neither the grandeur nor the magnificence that a bat can have, nor is it particularly frightening.

Heh, yeah, I think he'd be a great villain! I have to find some way to use him in some future project one day. And I have to find some place to use Neoplasmon too. Those are probably my two most villain-y digimon, heh.

wOW my two favorites of your Digimon within a few days. What a surprise!
I've always loved Kowamon, mostly because of how much I love bats. I loved his mode change being something negative instead of positive, and the idea he was hiding something. He just always seemed so cool. And Tsuruvemon was always such an incredible design to me, and I like him even better now with his cute leaflike nose.
I think he and Salemon would have an interesting friendship or rivalry. I might want to draw them together someday.

Pleasant surprise! 8D
Oh wow, thanks for all the compliments! ;w; Because Kowamon is such an old character (though his character as a whole didn't finalize until like 2009 I think, but still old), I sometimes feel like maybe he's a bit silly and such. But it's awesome to hear others like him too! ;w;
Also glad to hear you like Tsuruvemon's facelift, I like his more bat-like nose too!
Ooooh, I'd love to see them interacting! And poor Kowamon totally needs friends and/or rivals to counteract all the time he spends worrying about Sanguine Baron.

Indeed!
No problem! I don't think he's silly at all. I think he was, and remains, a very interesting concept. The batlike noses are my favorites because I think they're just really fun and cute. They're a very simple way to add a lot of personality to a design, which I think works well with Tsuruvemon.
Salemon is the kind of guy to be really unbothered by the darkness in others, so i think they could be friendly rivals. Though their Adult-level dogfights would be incredible.

Awww, glad to hear you think so. ;w; I'm sometimes critical of my old characters - more so with some than others of course.
Bat noses are the best. .w.
Oh yeah, defenitely! Duskdramon and Vespertimon fighting would be pretty intense. 8D

Oh, man. Aren't we all. There are some old Digimon designs I can barely look at without burying my head. But then there are others that, while I know they're really pretty bad, I kind of look at fondly.
I think they'd make excellent rivaling bat bros. Toboemon SB and Salemon's Ultimate (whenever he gets his name/final design) would also have a really cool fight.

Defenitely cooler than Salemon's Ultimate and regular Tooboemon! ;w;

Ohh, man, there are a bunch of Digimon I was too shy to upload. I didn't think they'd last. And I was right. A few of the ones I DID upload also ended up goners.
Yeah, if regular Toboemon is so anxious and defensive, it wouldn't be a very exciting fight, unfortunately.

Same here. At some point (2008? 2009?) I would make so many digimon in a whim, I think I've scrapped at least 15 digimon lines because there was no thought behind them.
Sadly no. ;w;

Same. I remember a few specifically - a dragon, a shark-otter, a hoofed weasel creature that was like sort of a grim reaper, and a Generic Polar Bear. I like the ones I have now because I'm taking the time to make them as good as I can.

That's good to hear. .w. Nowadays I don't even take my digimon further than sketch stage unless I have vague ideas for their whole evoline, or at least until Perfect level.

stereograves In reply to Gomis [2015-04-14 14:25:29 +0000 UTC]
The problem with some of mine was that I DID have the whole line, but they were uncreative or generic or just generally poorly thought out. I think I still have all the sketches somewhere, but they're likely never going to see the light of day. I do wanna work on making more Digimon aside from the ones for my friends and sister, but I'm a bit slow with them.

There's nothing wrong with working slowly and steadily! Better that than rushing things in that way that you'd constantly need to change their designs. (I mean nothing wrong with updating designs, I do that too of course, but often I want to get it looking nice enough that it wouldn't need a revamp for a year or two before I properly draw it!)

stereograves In reply to Gomis [2015-04-14 15:21:07 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. Salemon's line has gone through so much revision in just the last couple months. All I have left to design is the Ultimate, though. I just finished the Perfect yesterday. I decided to make him exactly how I want with little regard for the silliness of the concept.
And yeah, nothing wrong with updating designs, as we can see with yours usually it works out very nicely. Though that does remind me, I wanted to ask, who do you have left to update?

Gomis In reply to stereograves [2015-04-14 18:03:18 +0000 UTC]
Ooooh, nice! I can't wait to see his Perfect form! .w.
This month I'm still gonna do Gaarumon, hopefully in a couple of days. After that I only have four more to go - Ihtiriekkomon, Swaromon, Hitsujimon and Wolfphoemon.
After these I still have the Edenmon, and a couple of digimon lines, but I haven't shown them finished before, so they're not included in this whole revamping project.

Oh nice! Yeah, I remember all of them.I don't remember most of Swaromon, Gaarumon, and Ihtiriekkomon's lines, but I remember the child-levels and their color schemes and such. It'll be great to see them all revamped and looking nice.
And more new guys are always great! But it must feel good to be so close to finishing such a huge project.

Gomis In reply to stereograves [2015-04-14 18:26:44 +0000 UTC]
I don't expect people to remember much of their full evolines to be honest! It's been like five years since I took them off my gallery after all. (Oh gosh, time flies by.)
Yeah, definitely! Depending on how busy next month is for me, I'll try my best to finish all four next month, or then I'll do two and two and finish in June. .w.
Also other digimon like Edenmon, Korrimon and so on are part of other projects, so I'll reveal their lines as new forms are unlocked in the relevant stories/groups/so on, so to keep a little bit of air of suspense around I was never gonna include them in this revamping spree anyway. .w.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
stereograves In reply to Gomis [2015-04-14 22:41:09 +0000 UTC]
Really, five years already? It seems like it shouldn't be that long. But with my memory, you know, it'll seem that way.
I do wonder, though, is Wolfphoemon going to have his regular line (Kemurimon and Shiromon and...I can't remember the Perfect's name, hm) or the Armor-based line with Equemon and...the middle one (I can't remember their names somehow?) and Erhabemon?
Oh, yeah, I figured. I always felt a little cheated when people would spoil the whole lines before the story. Unless, of course, they didn't know they were writing one, and then it's just a matter of getting rid of the pictures and I'd probably forget their names in a few months anyways (if I only saw them a few times).
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Gomis In reply to stereograves [2015-04-15 03:26:18 +0000 UTC]
I think it's been five or four years? Since I took those down when I started my first (unsuccesfull) redrawing project around the time I started art school, which was well, four and a half years ago, but I honestly can't remember if I started before or after the school started.
I've actually been thinking about that. Since I like the whole Equemon line, I want it to be an alternative evoline rather than Armor evoline. Same with Ihtiriekkomon's originally armor evoline, actually. With the others who had armor forms I didn't really like the other forms enough to keep them, but I think I just might have to make these alternative evolines for Wolfphoemon and Ihtiriekkomon... So that's actually six more evolines. Welp. ;w; (Unless I don't draw them straight away, but that would really be against the whole point I guess.)
Yeah, same. Also now that I've redrawn all these guys, I think I want to use some of their Ultimates and such in stories (Eden too perhaps), but I don't know where yet so it's too bad if they become accidentally spoiler-y. ;w;

Yeah, I guess it makes sense. I'm just surprised it's been so long.
Didn't Ihtiriekkomon have like a tar-based Armor line? It was super cool. But maybe you could do two branches in the same image to keep it compressed? But yeah it does seem a bit counter to do part of the lines later. I hope you figure it out ok.
Oh, yeah, that'd be cool! I don't think that counts as spoilery though.

Yeah, he did/does!
I have to think about how I want to present them, having alternative evolines in one picture would make things easier, but it'd also make the file pretty big...

stereograves In reply to Gomis [2015-04-15 15:50:54 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I guess that would be a pretty big file...But they are kind of large anyway. I don't think it would deter the people who regularly look at your Digimon at all. But if that's a concern, it's definitely worth putting some thought into.
