Description A screencap from the Season 2 Chucklewood Critters episode "Where Did I Come From?" And in all honesty...it's a scene I have some, err...mixed feelings on. For on the one hand while I like the fact that the cubs' mothers aren't afraid to cut loose and show a sillier side every once in a while...oh my God this scene is so goofy!

In this episode the cubs have first started to learn about family trees from Franklin. Unfortunately Frisky can't bring up any of her own relatives since she doesn't know any of them; she was adopted by Bearbette's family when she was only a toddler. Franklin tries to reassure her that even if they're not related, they're all critters in Chucklewood, but that doesn't cheer her up for long. Nor does Bearbette's offer for her to play house in Buttons and Rusty's treehouse with them-in fact she flat out refuses the offer and storms off. Worried about Frisky, the cubs-along with Bearbette-have gone back to the cave to ask their mothers, Bridget and Rosie, about what they could to cheer her up. Rosie suggests they should be patient and understanding with her since her mind is all in a tizzy over her lost fox family. Buttons wonders about the difference between family trees, and Bridget offers to explain, but isn't quite sure how to put it. Rosie has an idea, however: she whispers to Bridget about how Franklin would usually teach the cubs. "Well...why not!" So they grab a pair of saucepans lying around the kitchen and place them upon their heads, Bridget dons a pair of goofy sunglasses...

...and as you see here, they rap about family trees. All the while Rosie is twirling around, snapping her fingers while Bridget dances around. At first, the cubs seem completely shocked to see their mothers acting this way, but they eventually find it so fun they and Bearbette join in too! It's a simple rap about how all our families are different, but "no matter where we started, where we end up is the key. How we care for one another, makes us one-big family!" When their mothers are done, Buttons and Rusty seem quite impressed.

Buttons: "Have you been taking lessons from Franklin?"
Bridget: "Now, Buttons...moms can be cool too, ya know!"

The cubs think it would be a great idea to perform this rap for Frisky in the hopes it might lift her spirits up, so off they go to find her. Little do they know she won't be back at her cave!

Like I said...I've got mixed feelings on this scene. On the one hand like I said, I do like it being shown the cubs' Moms have a sillier side to them. They're so much more responsible and down to earth than their husbands, the King Klutzes of Chucklewood, that it's kind of fun to see they can cut loose and just be silly every once in a while. It makes me like 'em more from a character standpoint! Also, the message in the rap itself (did I mention this is an edutainment series? ) is quite nice. But, on the other hand...

...this scene is so silly that I have a hard time watching it with a straight face. Like I said, I do like the fact that Bridget and Rosie have a sillier side...but man, just look at them here! If anything I would say they look more...er...dorky than cool! Of course this is a family edutainment series, so it makes sense that Buttons and Rusty would find their Mom's silliness here fun, but...let's be honest, how would most of you react as young children if your mother started bursting out into rap to teach you something and try to look cool and "with it" at the same time? I think most of us would've been totally mortified. I know I would've been if it were my Mom...and that is why I am not Buttons or Rusty I like the series itself, but as I've said before...eh...I could really do without the silly rap numbers. I remember seeing a comment on one of the Christmas specials saying "someone needs to Youtube Poop the f*** out of this series"...and, while I do like the series quite a lot...well...I can't entirely say that person is wrong. In particular the rap scenes seem like they would be prime Youtube Poop fodder. I'm...actually kind of surprised I haven't come across any featuring Franklin's raps or the cubs' moms' raps here being replaced with some Public Enemy or N. W. A. or Tupac or something along the lines of that Probably owes to the obscurity of the franchise...

But as I've said before, despite the silliness that is pretty constant throughout the franchise, I still quite like this little series and find most (Not all) of its' characters cute and charming. Why on Earth would I be uploading these screencaps if I disliked the series?
