I always liked Caerlaverock castle. They do battle reenactments there at the end of july - been a couple of times!

Good shot Gordon. That's a nice old, well stacked pile of bricks. You know those old places had to have been saturated with mold, maybe allergies weren't as bad in the days when this was inhabitied.

What's the name of this castle? Where is it? The book I'm reading right now has alot of Scottish history in it, mainly related to certain families and locations, due to the subjects it is covering - it's called The Temple and The Lodge.

Oh yes, nice photo, and I agree with Will about heritage being lost.

gordonrae In reply to Adaera [2007-01-15 07:11:48 +0000 UTC]

It's called Caerlaverock Castle, just on the south side of Dumfries in the south of Scotland, don't know the book Tami, but it won't matter coz i can't read

Thanks

Adaera In reply to gordonrae [2007-01-15 16:51:53 +0000 UTC]

The book is an academic study about the Knights Templar taking refuge in Scotland after King Philippe of France ordered their disbandment and arrest in 1314, but the book begins earlier than that, with a few chapters about William Wallace, Robert de Brus, John Comyn, etc. Caerlaverock Castle figures quite prominently in parts of the story as one of the conduits for the Knights, as do several areas around Loch Awe. There is also some debate that the Knights supported the Scots forces in the battle at Bannockburn in 1314. It's a shame you can't read though, because you won't understand a word of this, and you wouldn't be able to read the book

You're welcome

We went all over, I got to see the western shore, Ayrshire, Turnberry, Girvan etc

I got to see the ocean, some castles and waterfalls. Experienced some mighty winds and being sandblasted, and enjoyed the serenity at Cairn Holy.
