Description
I’m trying to go to sleep
My eyes won’t stay closed
I pull my blanket around me
I can’t do anything else

Mommy and Daddy are downstairs again
I don’t know what they’re doing, all I hear are shouts
I hide under my pillow to make it go away
But the noise won’t leave me alone

I hop out of bed onto the cold floor
Pull on my sweater and pick up Teddy too
I open the door slowly; I want to stay quiet
I sneak over to the stairs and sit down

The fight is still going on
They keep saying big grown-up words
There’s a loud noise and all is quiet
I hold Teddy close; he might be scared

I see Mommy now; she smiles and calls my name
I walk down the stairs; everything is okay
I follow Mommy to the big room with all my toys
I pick up a toy because she doesn’t like when I’m messy

She calls my name again and I turn around
There’s Daddy on the floor; he doesn’t look so good
I move over to his side; he’s covered in red
My hand touches his face; I shake him a little

I say his name; he doesn’t say mine back
What’s going on? He’s not talking
I hear another bang and I fall to the floor
I don’t know what’s happening, I think I’m falling asleep

My eyes are heavy; I can’t see anymore
Mommy comes up to me and wipes away a tear
She tells me everything is all right
I shouldn’t be afraid

I feel tired for some reason
I never remembered it hurting so
My eyes begin to close
The last thing I see is red

I can’t move my body anymore
I can’t feel it too
I can’t breath anymore
I feel empty too

I wish Teddy were with me
I’m so afraid
I think I’ll go to bed now though
I love you Mommy, Sweet dreams
