Hmmm, both look nice but I definitely like this one better. The shading on the other one distracts the eye from the details and you loos the contrast between the background and the image. If I'm allowed to make a suggestion, next time you try shading use a color that is really different from the ones you used in the flowers, like strong red for example. This would make greater impact.

I actually did have a reference, but what I usually do is I get the basic shape of the main focus of my picture, and then I do what I want with it. And actually, I changed the basic shape on this one a little bit from the original that I found online. I made my pedals more curly and pointy then the original.
