I used to think Sonic didn't care about Amy because he never seemed to express any feelings he had. But I have since come to realize that Sonic and Amy speak different "love languages" (a term coined by Gary Chapman). Amy clearly like spending Quality Time with Sonic, while Sonic appears to prefer expressing his love through Acts of Service (which is why he'll rescue Amy from danger).
