Description prototype of a my new compact grappling hook design
since the rope feeds through both parts, it doesn't need a locking mechanism and is deployed very quickly
material is 4 mm stainless steel

do you just pack it flat and assemble it when you need it, or is there enough give on the cord for you to flatten it while it's assembled?

you can't disassemble it with the cord in, the cord would have to squeeze into the narrow gap between the two parts on both sides
i had the same idea though, and if i weld the pieces to the outer edge of the shaft it should be possible
but if you want to avoid making the bowline hitch, you can just feed the cord through and secure it with a figure of eight, that's really quick

Maybe if the 2 openings on the welded half were an oval 2x taller than the current hole it could be flattened when there's slack on the line.
