I've always thought, head on, the Galaxy Class looked like a highway patrol officer wearing aviators. Like, the deflector dish is the 'stache and the buzzard collectors on the nacelles are the sunglasses... and the saucer section is the police hat.

For context, TNG was my dad's favourite show when I was growing up, and I'd stay up to watch it with him. He was a police officer, and I always thought he liked the show because the ship looked like him (and the crew solved mysteries and helped people just like he did!)

That's so sweet. Your dad sounds like a fantastic guy, with wonderful taste in TV shows, and with a great kid too!
My mom used to sit up with me as an infant, watching TNG while she waited for me to go to sleep. A few years later, she did the same thing with my then-baby brother, and I sneaked out of bed to see what she was watching. I got caught when the pretty ship didn't blow up, the nice people didn't all die, and I cheered - but I also got my bedtime moved later so I could watch TNG with her!
(The episode was "Cause and Effect", in case you're wondering - a good starting place for a five-year-old who wandered in partway through.)

I think the episode I started with was the one Q introduced them to the Borg. I was so terrified of the techno-zombies (Emperor Protect me) that I told my dad this was my favourite show so that I could watch and see the nice people get away safely! Still had nightmares for weeks, but wound up loving sci-fi with a fiery passion ever since! I'm so glad he let me watch and face my fears rather than telling me it was too scary. Star Trek was my childhood!
