Can you please tell me which software you used? Are the characters done in Vector or in Pixels? I'm assuming the background was done in PS but I always tried to create that painting effect on the characters.
Thanks in advance.

Hiya, that depends, on what I get in return for sharing my secrets!?!
No, no probs.
I'm going to make a tutorial for the characters, showing what I do with them after the pencil stage, and how....
But, for now you'll have to just deal with a huge wall of text!!
I line the characters in Illustrator as it gives the smoothest results, and is quicker/cleaner than inking buy hand.
I also made a custom brush to ink with. The ink brushes that come with Illustrator are REALLY hit and miss, and tend to do very strange things.
(This tapered line syle can also be done in photoshop, using the pen tool and choosing simualate pressure, but you have a bit more freedom in Illustrator as you can still adjust the line in real time if something looks off)
The thick and thin line style also helps for flat colour images, as it adds a feeling of weight, depth and flow to the characters
(Just reading this back, and I really am trying to seem like I know what I'm talking about )
All colouring is done in Photoshop using a soft edge brush, with opactiy that changes anywhere between 8, and 100% (normally around 15-20% though.
Hope that's more helpfull than it is confusing :stupidme
I'll let you know when I've done the tutorial though, as there are a few other people that are interested too
