One of the reasons I have been active is because I've been busy. I'm really close to finally building a gaming PC but I have some free time away from College. I would have had this out sooner if not for a few personal things that I'm frankly happy about but at the same time consumed what free time I actually had to do anything. Regardless I was to make a quick little sort of updated look into this two of the same continuities thing with Sonic games and the comics so here you go

The problem is simple.....the game's continuity is now breaching into other media known to Sonic namely the more popular one the comics. The IDW Sonic comes I can say are just....well...boring but not terrible to the point where I hate them they're just bland. This is because (and I do believe this) the higher ups wanted the comics to be a better promoter to the games so now they share the same continuity. Remember in the Archie days how there were just small little mini comics that told small nuggets of story to whatever game was coming out. Basically we're at that point where those little few page mini stories are the entire point of the comic. Next mainstream Sonic game will probably have it's own full fledged arc in the comic just like how the entire plot of the IDW series is from Forces.

The reason why people were so interested like I explained in my meme post was because the comics offered a different perspective. This perspective was a completely foriegn way for people to enjoy these characters and even get interested in new characters. This also stems into the events that took place and like I said in the post the scale and creativity each writer could bring into this new world with the characters we enjoy. I think scale is important to any form of fiction even if you aren't looking for a world that has this giant backstory. While simplicity is fine what I like over Mario (Even though I like that series too) is because Sonic's avenue to tell better stories because the world these character are in can lead to some interesting events.

The Big Split as I like to call it is when the continuities from the higher ups became disconnected which hurt the lore for people like me who care for that kind of shit. Things never got explained and never will get explained because the games don't care about that kind of thing anymore so people like me gravitated to either fan fiction, the comics or in a lot of cases both entirely. The comics filled that gap of wanting to see more from a part of a franchise that I like so much but as if recent....that love has drained. I can't even blame the writers what knucklehead thought this would be an excellent idea. The comic's identity were based on the fact of them not being like the games and taking the liberty to tell a different story with some of the same elements.

Like stated before you take that away and the interest is diluted as people can just get their fix from the games. Sure....there are elements we won't see in the games that we can see in the comics but if you ask me the scale is no where near as big as it was in the Archie days. Then again I still think the comic is too early to judge.
