I didn't see Bolg in the movie.... did I miss him, or was this inspired by the action figure?

Yeah, mostly inspired by the action figure. I think he did appear in the movie, but just super-briefly during that flashback to the orc/dwarf battle... Who knows, maybe we'll see more of him in the extended edition, or films 2 & 3.
