Bryn Poliwczynski (c) 2012

Story, characters, art, designs, etc. all belong to me.

One of the many things that frustrates me about my art is that I end up doing the same thing over and over. I've tried to get away and do different things, like guys or creatures, but it's never really worked for me: pretty and elaborate has always been my style. But recently, I was inspired by an awesome dream I had (what else, Bryn?) for a video game. I have the plot down and the characters, so I'm going to draw up the character and setting designs, and upload them with the basic story and then you all can tell me what you think.

MIND over MATTER

A twisted queen who is unsatisfied with her looks makes an impossible wish for perfection. The result is a collision of several different worlds, bringing together times, places, and people who should have never touched. A constant battle between each confused side is waged for the dominion of the new, distorted world...

I feel like I really succeeded in doing something different than my norm with Corma, while using something that is still true to myself (steampunk ). I wanted to include the notes I have that describe/elaborate on certain aspects of her design, but the picture looked so awesome on its own, so I left it. Instead, I'll put it down here:

[Face] I really wanted her to be a perfectly melded mixture of human and machine, and yet still make it obvious that she is still human. To give the impression of the sweet, young girl that was turned into this obscenity, I gave her long, golden hair that emerges from behind a jarringly harsh mask.

[Torso] I intentionally made it unclear whether this part of her is human, machine, or both. Corma's coat is a bit complicated. The top half of it is flat against her body, almost like a swimsuit, and then the bottom hooks around her waist, as if it is a normal coat. The hands on the clock in Corma's chest have stopped, because of the time freeze caused by the colliding worlds.

[Arms] Corma's right arm is completely human, so it retains her former skill with the sword. Her lower left arm is machine, and thus can carry the heavier load of her weapons and also use all three guns simultaneously. She has a flintlock in her hand, a shotgun of sorts on her arm, and a pressurized steam gun that shoots poisoned needles mounted on top.

[Legs] Both Corma's legs have been lost in the transition from human to steampunk android. Only her bones remain, and are kept in seemingly fragile glass tanks (they're much stronger than they appear). A tube connects from one leg, to her spine because there is another glass chamber inside her chest. Her feet are elevated and animal-like to give her incredible speed.

Aw, thank you so much!

Ironically, I really like intricate details but I'm not really good at it. A lot of times, I sit there and say to myself "I'm going to make this super elaborate!"...and then I have no clue what to do.

Me too! I've tried to incorporate little details into my pieces, but I either run out of patience or effort. It's something I need to work on. ><
