This Gladiator is in all out attack mode. His overall appearance is frightning.War armourment is "exceptional" with a lovely purple tone highlight.

to contradict a comment below this I strongly disagree with a comment left by "Superbum" a few lines down. To begin with that sword is not too large to be wielded in one hand by any means. In history we have seen barbarians and vikings along with other breeds of warriors handle and effectively fight with claymores twice that size. Personally I own a six foot authentic no dachi which in almost every way is larger than the sword in that picture. I can handle and swing it in one hand with ease, and I'm not a huge guy. the man in this picture is easily twice my size. Not to mention that we as an audience do not know the characteristics of this man. it may very well be that he is super human. Next "superbum" states that "Perhaps for the sake of him acting the sword could be going up at a slight angle." well last time I looked, the guy in the picture isn't acting. And to get technical, with the way his body is turning and the rotation the sword would be angled down, if not by overlapping action from his arm to his wrist then by air resistance. Having it angled up would seem awkward and probably make the stance look too stiff like you were trying to show too much in one picture. Unlike Mr. Superbum I am not looking at this picture "very critical" I am looking at this picture for what it is, a brilliant piece of art. I could nit pick at a picture all day but there is really no point because when push comes to shove you can't please every body. Besides I'm not as good as you yet so I'd rather you critique me than me critique you. Anyway I thought you should know that this pic is great the way it is. Thats why it's one of my favorites.
~Z.

your perspective is fine yet i disagree with ur final statement saying ur not as good as him so you would rather have him critique you than the other way around. This is a common misconception when you dont know the difference between critique and insult. critique is telling wats wrong. insult is making it sound horrible. what superbum did above was critique, he was quite logical in his perspective and his perspectives are that the sword is too large and the pose is wrong. quite okay if you ask me because he is thinking in his point of view. while you think differently i would advise you to forget your degree of mastery of art when critiqueing. you could be very bad at drawing art but you could be quite good at telling whats wrong. yes mate. people like that exist. and if we only condemn those below our level of skill, then how horrible would it be. the best in the world could have alot of errors in his drawings but no one will be there to tell him! Im not telling your an idiot for typing that, honestly thats how i used to think too, but we as artists should help each other. and this is the point of this website and there is no better way to do so than by critiqueing anothers drawings. true that if everyone says what ever they want its wrong, but superbum clearly stated a few times that he is just thinking critically, art is not just a picture. its emotions and personality, a good portrait can explain the artists character in detail, so dont expect everyone to see things the same way.

honestly i noticed a few errors in this as well. The lighting on the sword seems to come from a different source!

this is a critique, not an insult.

peace mate

remember not everyone can become and artist, some are born with it, others dont have the determination to be it!

oh yes and i didnt bother telling how awesome it is, everyone else seems to have said it in a hundred different ways that i feel like an idiott when i type it!

This is rather late. I haven't been on this site in some time but since I found this reply there is something I'd like to say. I agree with you for the most part; except for one thing. A critique is not just the wrongs. A proper critique ,and what is expected in the professional world, is the ability and responsibility of the critic to high light both the good and the bad of a piece. With that, no matter what the critic says it is simply personal opinion, nothing is set in stone. I often get the feeling that some people criticize art work to an obsessive extent; and things that really shouldn't be criticized. This artist had a vision, he created that vision perfectly, but someone has to come here and tell the artist that his vision would suit them better in another way. It just seems to me that the Bum was hunting for something wrong with a thing he couldn't create, and when he couldn't find that something, he made one up.

Looks just fine on my monitor!

Awesome character design all around, though I think this piece has got some issues with your light sources. The main body of the figure itself looks great, the only places that don't seem to have indication of lighting is on the backside on the cloth. There's indications on the armor, but the not the fabric portions. Also, the sword's lighting looks like it's got a completely separate light source.

Just love the mask design it's very cool. Kind of looks like a bald eagle head.

The only constructive crit I would have would be that the sword looks very large to be so "one handed" in the iar with such a an excited pose. Perhaps for the sake of him acting the sword could be going up at a slight angle ; instead of being downward in a more docile postion. Keep ibn mind this is me looking very critical; beyond the average viewer I would say.
