Description
This is a painting that I initially did a pencil for in a sketch group and decided to paint it. Final size is 4500 x 7200 with above 40+ hours of work so far. I'm gonna take a break from it and come back to it later.UPDATE - Here's the final version. I've changed quite a few things and I'm at least happy enough with it to call it finished and move on.

ooh! nice! I love the colors. The blue tone of the backround is nicely contrasted by the gardener's pinkish-orange hue. and the textures of his stitches are especially cool.

The style of armor + pants + dead things + central positioning reminds me strongly of Brom. Who happens to be my favorite fantasy artist. Kudos!

Excellent concept, just a couple comments:
-I realize the tree is a natural object, and therefore would never be truly symmetrical, but those two main trunks are so close to it, and follow so closely on the perfect symmetry of the central figure, that to have it slightly off like it is is very distracting, and even annoying.
-Is the placement of the sword deliberately phallic?

That's really good. I like how some of the flowers are sprouting THOUGH the dead person's arm. And the ugly dude reminds me of Nemesis from Resident Evil 3. And the mist in the background climbing up the tree is a nice effect, too.

lol, I came back again to make another comment. I just totally dig how you problem solved. You took in to account most of the things people said on sketcho. That spectral violet grey blue fog just breathes somehting is a miss in this part of the forest. Yeah, I think this is in my top 3 favorite Derek pieces.

Really impressive work. Each one of the 40 or over hours is worth the while watching this, the details and shining on the armor and the fog effect, the flowers, and all that embraced in shadows in every aspect. Really really welcome addition to deviantart!
