Description This is a small, quick sketch I did. Sloppy, but I liked the design, so I colored it and tossed it up here. I see it as some kind of construction mech which was modified to meet baseline combat capabilities.

Looks like a space gallop.  If one is wondering the Galliop is from a series called Xanbungle! I love it this picture.

Thanks! Ah yes, good ol' Xabungle. The Walker Machines are so charmingly goofy. I had a 1/100 model kit of the Caprico Type a long time ago...

That shoulder cannon looks a lot like Shaian's Dragon Fire cannon from Dragon's Heaven with a sensor unit from S Gundam's beam smart gun attached. Not that that's a bad thing, mind.

It's been a long time, but I'm pretty sure you're right -- both of those things influenced this drawing. I collected B-Club obsessively.

I added this to my favorites a while ago, but I've recently been hunting around for non-military mecha and battlefield expedient mecha/technicals for a short while now (as inspiration for a Mekton-Z game that I'm running, as it happens), and I'm dismayed at how little there seems to be. Excellent work and not too hard to see what it probably looked like unmodified.

Well thanks! There's also the Otto, but I'm sure you know about it already. I'll also be posting another industrial mech soon.

Actually, I can't say for certain that I do know about that already.

I'll upload it in the next few days, then! I've been needing an excuse to color it anyway.

I look forward to it.

Oh! I had already uploaded it, silly me. Not colored yet, though.

It reminds me a Walker Machine. So '80s.

MMmmm.. Even GUndam shows rarely give us something like this. Typically these suits are more Pod, or Bug like in the Gundam Shows. Zetas, Junior Mobile is a fav.

The cannon at the shoulder is superbly designed, like something inspired from Gundam Sentinel (Katoki), and something from Kazushiya Kondo or Makoto Kobayashi.

Good Good keeping the Design simple too. Bang on!

Thanks very much! You're an observant fellow -- I was indeed thinking Kondo/Kobayashi on the gun. The main unit was most inspired by some of the old, obscure prototype ATs depicted in Dual Magazine. You can see them here:

I do NOT envy the poor bastard who has to pilot this into combat.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Could end up in a real MD Geist type of situation.

Nice. I like the junior mobile suit feel that this design has. It also works well in that it's clearly not a dedicated combat design, and so it feels a bit "kitbashed," which gives you the feeling that taking this thing into a actual firefight is perhaps riskier than one might like.

Hey, thanks for the cogent commentary. I was inspired by some drawings I saw of early Votoms ATs... like pre-pre-Scopedog designs. Construction/industrial units do seem like a logical starting point for what eventually becomes a military design.

why are there watermelons in the cockpit?

Because watermelons are delicious!

JeanLucCaptain [2012-10-18 17:15:55 +0000 UTC]

so in other words this is a labour mech that's been weaponized?

Yep, that's exactly right!

It looks like something almost out of Patlabor.

Grebo-Guru In reply to Dairugger [2012-10-09 04:30:01 +0000 UTC]

It does? Huh. Well, Patlabor has some pretty cool mecha, so I'll take that as a compliment.

Dairugger In reply to Grebo-Guru [2012-10-09 05:03:54 +0000 UTC]

Well you should, but the more I look at it I can also see some influences from VOTOMS as well such as the left is much like that on the X-ATH-02-DT Rabidly Dog

Grebo-Guru In reply to Dairugger [2012-10-09 05:51:06 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, then! Yeah, I think VOTOMs was more my inspiration.
