Doesn't it. Preserving mystery is so attractive...

Guess what ??
They've been waiting for over a month in my message center, patiently, and FINALLY I get to answer (I can't pretend I haven't had time to ponder over them) !
So thank you for the comment, the truth is, this shot was a total mistake, I didn't know what I was taking, I didn't think this would be the result, and it only became like this after much cropping and contrast adjusting. But then I loved it in the end, it seemed so mysterious, and yet it was a self portrait, that was grand. So I know it isn't technically worth much, but it has emotion for me... And also I'm a bit scared of not being able to get the same result another time.

"this shot was a total mistake" I would call it a lucky shot.
"I'm a bit scared of not being able to get the same result another time." Well, don't be. You know, once you got the hang of the basics of that 400D, you can try to work towards the results that you want, instead of pushing a button on your current compact cam and simply hoping for a good outcome.
If you decide to give it another go, you'll probably have to switch the camera into manual mode and take a couple of shots with a range of faster shutter speeds (in combination with the same aperture (=F-number) and ISO settings) than the camera is asking for. If you use the automatic mode, you'll probably end up with an overexposed picture. Unless, of course, the 400D is so incredibly smart that it instantly knows what you're trying to achieve. (And maybe it is, who knows! )
It is a tricky shot and it will take some experimenting with both camera and backlighting, but I'm sure you'll manage to get a nice one.

No, but I can imagine that it could get quite frustrating, as you can't really see what you're doing.
