Second sketch for my "Books Characters" series.

I read The Bartimaeus Trilogy (The Amulet of Samarkand, The Golem's Eye and Ptolemy's Gate) something like 5 years ago. I liked it very much but I never wanted to buy it. One day maybe I will. The fact is, I didn't enjoyed the ending. If you haven't read it, I won't say anything more. I really liked the characters, especially Bartimaeus (of course) and the way Jonathan Stroud writes. This is the way I see his characters while I read his books.

Bartimaeus is pure genius. I read the prequel to the trilogy, The Ring of Solomon, and it was not as good as the trilogy, but the jinn (djinni) rocks the socks. I portrayed him in his Ptolemy-like form because I imagine his spiritual body as flame-shaped smoke... not very interesting to draw. The other forms are too hard to draw and this is just a sketch.
Nathaniel is showed in all his versions: the cute 12-years old little boy we loved in the first book, the arrogant 14-years old member of English Government with his military haircut we hated in the second book and the honourable 17-years old magician who saved the world in the third book. I sketched his appearance right after reading the books (2007) on a very old piece of paper I will never show to anyone, if there are discrepancies from the description given in the books I don't know what to say... I might have been drunk while sketching, and now it passed a lot of time... The stone throne was part of that sketch (don't ask). Nathaniel holds Gladstone's staff and wears the Amulet of Samarkand.
I don't like Kitty. She's irritant. I'm sorry because she could have been a better character. I think Stroud is unable to make proper heroines: although she's better than Kitty, I didn't like neither Asmira from The Ring of Solomon. I portrayed her as seen in the third book.

If you don't know this series of novels for "young adults", I think it deserves a read. Especially if you like english wizards but are tired of Harry Potter.

Comments and opinions are really appreciated (I write it everytime but no one really seems to read it)!

LOVED THAT BOOK.
(except the ending. That last scene killed me >_<)

Bartimaeus is just...hilarious XD

Have you ever read Skulduggery Pleasant? If you liked Bartimaeus, you should totally try it out! It's better written (sorry Stroud XD) and there's the same type of humor

I always wanted to read Skuldruggery Pleasant! Thanks for your suggestion, now I'm more motivated: I will go and find these books.
Aaand, yes. That-last-scene. I swear I had to read the last 5 pages three times to deal with the ending...

Awesome! It's a really good summer series ^^

I know, right?
Just as I was really starting to love Nathaniel....ALWAYS HAPPENS. ALWAYS.

At least he didn't kill off Bartimaeus, but still...T_T

Well, killing Barhimaeus would have killed the series, I fear... -___-
And that last line in the book. *Cries* There was no need for such an ending! Stroud could have ended the book in a thousand different ways! But no! And now I have another dead Unexistent Man (that's how I call the characters I like both physically and temperamentally)...

P.S. I can't help but see everybody's favorite Uchiha traitor Sasuke on that throne.

I wouldn't call it a gigantic smile, but if you wanted it a bit more smirky, I would lower the eyebrows a bit. A sarcastic smile tends not to go all the way to the eyes. Or maybe try quirking one eyebrow?

Eh, but what do I know, I haven't got facial expressions downpat myself. Anyhow, nice job here. I love the three ages of Nathaniel, and I'll take a tip from you on the Ptolomy hairstyle, I like it way better than the version I did when I tried to draw Bartimaeus.

I've got to do some practice with expressions, uh?
I saw your version of Ptolemy: his haircut is nice, original! Of course I'm glad you like the one I draw (it's not totally egyptian but it looks so)... Thank you very much for your comment!
ps: and thanks for the devWatch!

It's good, but I personally think Kitty could use a little work ^^
Just because I think her personality doesn't match that gigantic smile.

Oh crap, I wanted to give her a cunning smile... Did I fail?
