Description Just a series of black and white florals...A little different from my usual but I thought they were nice. Some are old, some are new.

As always, comments are very much appreciated, but particularly so this time. Which is your fave from this latest series? I might start a poll even.

Thankyou! Enjoy!

Beautiful - love that shallow DOF and your B&W conversions are superb.

Although I don't like black-and-white photos too much, this is very-very delightful. This is hectic, inspire to move with its sharp edges, and streamlined shape.

So amazingly good!

I just absolutely love your work! how do you get the lighting like this?? do you do anything special or is it just editing afterwards??

Thanks for the wonderful comment, I'm really sorry if you've accidentally commented on the wrong photo, I was changing the order of them!

The lighting on most this series was all just afternoon sunlight. This one was at the botanical gardens, some of the others were filtered light through a window

I don't do a huge deal of editing, just a tweak of the levels and sometimes a small vignette. These ones were shot in RAW which really helps because it's like working with the original negative if you were shooting in film, there is no degradation or compression and you can make more subtle changes first.

And to answer your other question, I use a Canon EOS 400D and either a 50mm macro lens or I think this one was using my 28-135mm lens. I most often shoot on a really low f number, like 2.4 to give a really shallow depth of field.

Hope this helps!

wow....i don't understand all the technical stuff. i've never taken a photography class....basically i bought my first camera a few months ago, a canon powershot sd1000 and started taking pictures. i'm quite an amature actually....i'd love to take some courses when i start college

GreenEyedHarpy In reply to fraulein-larissa [2007-07-16 01:26:12 +0000 UTC]

Sorry! I didn't mean to overpower you. Apparently those powershot cams are very good for compact cameras.

Basically what I was sayign is that the only stuff I usually change when I process them in photoshop is the levels of contrast etc and the vignette is that dark ring around the edges of the photo.

The macro lens lets you get in really really close to stuff so you can get lots of detail in things that would normally be out of focus on normal lenses. The f number is the aperture that allows light into the camera, the wider open it is, the shallower the area of focus will be. So I always keep mine wide open to create those really strange effects of coming in and out of focus

I'm sure you'll find some great classes to take at college, and have heaps of fun with it, can't wait to see what else you come up with

I hope all that stuff made a bit more sense and wasn't condescending!

See you later hun
